And oh, the bitterness, The awful period ot surrendering, when a student meets with tailure. So a teacher has to be encouraging. She has to tell the student in the dunce cap that tests only count one-eighth on the grade and that a little extra credit can make all the ditterence in the world, when at the last moment tests count three-tourths on report cards. So the student works hard. Being on the team, he gets his assignments in a little after deadline time, but teacher is sympathetic and so he escapes with less than minor iniuries. But he gets an in- complete on his report card. Rem. Mathematics, English, World Geography, and I' ANDREW KNUDSEN, B.S P. E. and Health K Club Hobby: All Sports :rv 5 . Isn't there anything a teacher doesn't know? What gives a teacher the uncanny ability to see through well-constructed alibis and excuses? And why such hard exams it they didn't want their students to use the cribs? Must teachers always lecture? There's enough parental discip- line without the daily faculty sermon. Teachers have peculiar instincts. They don't let you chew gum, and they would rather keep you in class atter the bell rings than let you till a hungry stomach. Will no one ever have respect tor the grow- ing generation . . . JIM INGELSBY, B.S. General Science, Biology Line Coach, Football Assistant Track and Wrest- ling Ski Club H0l3by: Sports Mow?

Physically she knows he is capable, mentally she won't make an esti- mate, and psychologically she knows he possibly won't graduate. But she's understanding. She talks her pupil into taking a correspondence course to substitute for failing. And with a look of knowledge about him, the young scholar digs into the work before him. Yes, teacher has initiative, and she pushes him further along in his work. She's encouraging and her few compliments seem magnified to him.
