They are leaders. All, in some sense, play an important part in the running ol: our institution. Therefore, we have chosen a picture oF our presi- dent, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the high- est leader in the land, as a Fitting introductory ol: this section. Mr Merle West BOAIQD OF DIIQECTCDIQS Not in picture: Mr. Freeman Shultz In watching the student activities during the course of a school year, one is greatly impressed by the high degree of accomplish- ment in so many varied fields. The School Board, feeling that these extra-curricular activities have as dehnite a place in the school program as the regular academic studies, lends every en- couragement to their development and growth. The outstanding success oi this annual, student publication is indicative of the high state of accomplishment in the out-of- class activities and certainly is a great credit to those students participating in its publication. Among the qualities which they possess and which helped them to win this title was patriotism, They are just two average stu- dents, who enjoy the Freedom that Americans are entitled to, and that our boys are now Fighting to keep. They represent the average American boy and girl at worlc and at play. TYPICAL BUY AND GIIQI. lf' QQ? fi GLENN i IOO Tl-IEIIQ ACTIVITIES HATS OFF TO- Velma Hamm and Glenn Kennedy for being voted the typical boy and girl of the class of 1942. They were elected on the following qualities: sportsmanship. scholarship, personality health. and appearance. These, they both fulfill as shown hy their attitude and appear- ance to others throughout their high-school years. To find who was the typical senior boy and girl, the students from each senior home room nominated several boys and girls of which names of the highest and of anyone re- ceiving within two votes of the highest were put on the list which was submitted to the faculty. The faculty voted on them and chose the ten highest. These ten were again voted on hy the senior class and as a result we have Velma Hamm, typical girl, and Glenn Kennedy, typical boy, an honor which they both justly deserve. Glenn Kennedy-TYPICAL BOY-Glenn, known as Gibby to his many friends, was born in Riderwood, Alabama, on July 3l, l924. He now weighs l50 pounds, stands 5' 9 tall. and has brown eyes and dark wavy hair. A regular fellow concerning sports, Glenn has earned letters for being a member of the Pelican footbal! squad and of the track team. At noon, he can be seen rowdying on the lawn with the rest of the gang. Besides sports, Glenn likes to dance and is a good dancer. Like most boys his age, he likes popular music and is always up on the most popular tunes of the day. Glenn's most outstanding characteristic is his ability to lead others which accounts for his holding the following offices: Master Counselor of the De Molays: president of the Hi-Y: vice-president of the senior class, and an active member of the traffic squad and K. Club. When asked what the two most exciting incidents in his lite were, he replied, When l went back to visit Florida and Georgia at the end of my sophomore year, and when the Jobs' Daughters crowned me King of their hearts at their annual King of Hearts Dance. It you are a good friend of Glenn's, you will invariably hear him say, That's pretty good. for that is his pet expression. His biggest ambition is to be an F. B. l. agent. a vocation which we know he will achieve success in. Good luck to you, too, Glenn. A Velma Hamm-TYPICAL GIRL-- Hamm, as she is called by her friends, was born at Pendleton, Oregon, on May 2I, I924. She is a pretty, dark-haired brunette with an average height of around 5' 7 . That she was born at Pendleton, Oregon, may account for her great devotion for horses and outdoor life. She collects miniature horses and dogs as her hobby. She loves to ride horses, play tennis, and ride a bicycle. Velma is active in school affairs. She was secretary of the Latin Club: vice-president of the Art Club, presi- dent of the Big and Little Sister Club of Girls' League: elected to the Student Congress: and a member of the Pep Peppers. She also was elected Queen of this year's track meet. When' Velma graduates, she plans to attend Armstrong Business College: and she hopes someday to own a big horse ranch all her own. Although Velma's father is Chief of Police, she has not always been a lawful little citizen. We were told that on the first day of her school life, she went to the playgrounds and played all day instead of going to school. She has an all-round. swell , personality-friendliness. dependability, loyalty, honesty, willingness. and an even temper rank high in her personal traits. When speaking to anyone, she has a clever little way of raising her eye brows and flashing a bright smile. Probably this is what wins her her many friends. She has been a success in high school: she will cer- tainly be a good citizen in her future life. Good luck, Velma! si 1. Wonder whafs funny? 2. Some fun! 3.
