Wiley, CLEKK5 Mr. Merle West, TI-IEPRO UCERS These are the resourceful ones whose untiring efforts have made possible the present fine condition of our school and its steady im- provement. They must budget the income and expenses and see that all the required funds are secured: it is they who must decide when changes such as enlargements of buildings or improvements of grounds should be made. The contracting oi teachers is also under their direction. Behind the scenes, the Board of Directors manages all of the com- plex business necessary to keep our institution running smoothly so that the show can go on. LLQYD B. C5110 SE IORS Hats off to an up-and-coming class that had everything it takes to sail through four years of high school with flying colors. Every phase of school activity has had its full share of the supposedly more dignified element. Athletes, dra- matists, journalists, musicians, political leaders, and experts in almost every field claim membership in the class of '4O. Their motto, together we stickg divided we're stuckf, has proved itself to them, for together they have succeeded in mak- ing a record that will he truly hard to beat. Colors: Pink and Blue. Flower: American Beauty Rose. VALEDICTORIANS lt is a very rare occasion when two stu- dents have the same grade average after four years of high school. Such was the case this year, however, when Pat Ellis and Charles Foster ended their high school careers with a straight Hone average, fthe first time a straight one average has occurredj: as a result we have two valedictorians and no saluta- torian. Patricia and Charles were prom- inent in the activities of school as well as heing high in their grades. Both were prominent in journalism and also held im- portant positions in several organiza- tions. Mr. Nihil had charge of NVildcat football this year, and from what we hear he has prepared a pretty good team to take the Peli- can's place next year. Mr. Yanderpool brought the lilainath Knights into the highlights this year more than they have ever been before. We believe that he improved them one hundred per cent. Mr. Sinclair was coach of tennis this year, and we think he did a very good job of it even though they didn't appear in many tennis matches. Mr. French put his Pelican basketbtall players to work this year and kept them busy for the whole season. Snowy and his Pelicans set some kind of a new record this year in football. They tied more games this season than any other season. Mr. Tilton didn't coach any sport this year, but he had charge of all school properties, and we feel that he has done a very good Job. fcfo IN X FOYKTQ-ASH .. ,... .. ,,. ,,. f ,,. ...- ,,,. ......:-.ag- PELIC FQOTBALL MELYIN R.'XKlt7S-Klelvin played fullback and right half for three years. The Pelicans dominated during the first halfg and the Tigers took their turn in the second half. All efforts to cross the goal line, however. were stopped by stellar playing by the lines of both teams. Rush's 'long punt. which was good for 75 yards, was the outstanding feat of the fracas: while Ramos must not be forgotten for his bringing the stands to their feet by his tackling of Medford's Salsberry on the one-half yard line following a successful pass reception. Both teams resorted a great deal to the air in an effort to score, with Medford com- pleting eight out of eighteen and the locals five out of fourteen. PELICANS 12-GRANTS PASS 7 The Cavemen pulled a real Houdini on Modoc Field but failed to beat the Pelicans. Although Snowy's first and second teams were kept score- less the first half, they countered early in the third quarter and scored a touchdown after a fifty yard drive. The Pelicans dominated most of the game, and the main ground gainers for the Pelicans were Ramos, Anacker, and Salsbury. PELICANS 34-'EUREKA 13 The Pelicans sharpened their blades and cut all around and through the Loggers to score a very decisive victory. Continued interceptions of passes stopped the Loggers from going goalward more than once.
