Ckzrrier Strike Grmgv 5 Born in Longview, Wash , Rear Adm Jamie Kelly grew up ln Scotia, New York A 1973 graduate of the Umted States Naval Academy, he was designated a Naval Flight Of'f1cerfNFO1 in April 1974 Following completion of A-6 training with VA-128 at NAS Whidbey Island, Wash , his initial fleet assignment was with VA-165 on board USS CONSTELLATION CCV 641 from January 1975 through December 1977 He returned to VA-128 m January 1978 where he served as a flight instructor until May 1980 He then served with the Umted N ations Truce Supervision Organization C UN TSO1 ln Palestine as a military observer from June 1980 through July 1981 From August 1981 to December 1983, Rear Adm Kelly was the NFO Training Officer on the staff of Commander, Training Wmg SIX in Pensacola, Florida, before joining VA-145 on board USS KITTY HAWK CCV 631 and USS RANGER CCV 611 from May 1984 through July 1986 Assignment as Aide to the Assistant Chief of Naval Operations for Air Warfare tOP 051 in Washington D C followed until August 1988 He then reported to the National War College where he graduated in June 1989 Rear Adm Kelly reported to VA 115 as Executive Officer in November 1989 and was in command from July 1991 until September 1992 During this period VA 115 led strikes m the Persian Gulf War from USS MIDWAY CCV 411 helped transition USS INDEPENDENCE QCV 621 to forward deployed duty in Japan and was the first attack squadron flying sorties enforcing the Umted Nations no flv zone ln Southern Iraq fOperat1on SOUTHERN WATCH1 mAugust 1992 Rear Adm Kelly returned to Washington D C in October 1992 as the Director of the Strike In September 1995 he assumed command of USS SACRAMENTO CAOE 11 while returmng from a WESTPAC deployment to her homeport of Bremerton Wash In February 1997 he was named Special Assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe!Commander in Chief U S European Command at SHAPE in Mons Belgium He served m that position through April 1999 He then became the 29th Commanding Officer of USS CONSTELLATION QCV 641 ln September 1999 and held command through May 2001 He then served as the Director for Operations Plans Policy and Training U S Atlantic Fleet QCLF N3!N5fN71 from September 2001 through August 2002 Rear Adm Kelly most recently served as the Director for Warfare Programs and Readmess U S Atlantic Fleet He assumed command of Carrier Strike Group 5 in July 2003 His personal decorations mclude the Defense Superior Service Award the Legion of Merit the Meritorious Service Medal the lndlv1dualAlr Medal with Combat V and various umt and campaign awards He has flown more than 4 000 flight hours primarily in the A 6 including 60 combat missions flown durmg Operations DESERT STORM and SOUTHERN WATCH Q, C0 , Projection Evaluation and Anti-Air Warfare Research QSPEAR1 Branch ofthe Office of Naval Intelligence.

ChiefofStajjf Capt. Dick Corpus was born in Quezon City, Philippines, in 1954. He and his family moved to Seattle, which he now calls home, in 1977. He graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering. Capt. Corpus has served in a variety of sea and shore duty assignments. At sea, he served as a junior officer on board the USS RAY CSSN 6531 and the USS GUARDFISH QSSN 6121. He was the Navigator of the USS HENRY M. JACKSON CSSBN 7301QGOLD1 and served as the Executive Officer of the USS QUEENFISH QSSN 6511 1989-1991 and the USS NEVADA QSSBN 7331fBLUE1 1991-1992. While serving as the Commanding Officer of the USS PORTSMOUTH CSSN 7071 from 1995-1997, he completed two Western Pacific deployments and the PORTSMOUTH won the coveted Battle E twice under his command. He also commanded the USS LA JOLLA QSSN 7011 from February 1998 through July 1998. Ashore, Capt. Corpus was the Officer in Charge of Unmanned Vehicles Detachment for Submarine Development Group ONE and Strategic Plans and Operations Officer for Commander Submarine Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet!U. S. Strategic Command. He served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Exercises and Tactical Readiness for Commander Submarine Group SEVEN 1998-1999 and Commander Submarine Group SEVEN Chief of Staff from 1999-2001. He assumed command of Submarine Squadron 15 on Feb. 23, 2001. Capt. Corpus serves as Chief of Staff, Commander, Carrier Strike Group 5 on the Navy's only permanently forward-deployed carrier, USS KITTY HAWK, operating out of Yokosuka, Japan. Carrier Group 5 is comprised of 10 ships, approximately 8,000 people, and 72 aircraft. Capt. Corpus has earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal fwith two Gold Stars1, and the Navy Commendation Medal fthree Gold Stars1.
