14 Presiden There have been in all ages and cultures men who walk taller than those who walk beside them. In the unique surroundings at Kittrell College, there is such a man. A man who continues to grow in wisdom and meaning to us, who has carried our problems on his shoulders, and who has given us the unequaled gift of faith in ourselves. He has been patient and understanding when we cry with dissatisfaction; he knows how to talk with us, because he knows us. We are fortunate and proud to have this man for our leader, for the President of our institu- tion—President Larnie G. Horton.

Members of the Board of Consultants for Kittrell College In its quest for the attainment of its new objective—that of providing compensatory education for disadvantaged youth—Kittrell College is fortunate to have a distinguished Board of Consultants to help chart its course. This seven-man Board consists of: Mr. Silas M. Vaughn, Business Manager of St. Andrews Presbyte- rian College; Dr. Elmer Schertman, Instructor in Political Science at St. Augustine’s College; President Horton; Dr. Bruce Whitaker, President of Chowan College; Mr. Charles L. Wheeler, Director of North Carolina State Commission on Higher Education; Dr. John B. York, Dean of Louisburg College; and Dr. Isacc Miller, President of Bennett College. LS : Beside every successful man there is a dynamic woman—and a son to follow in his footsteps. Kittrell College is fond of its First Family: President and Mrs. Horton and their son, Larnie, Jr. The role of the President calls for a person with a versatile personality. This role is ade- quately filled by our President as he is seen above greeting visitors to the campus and ad- dressing a group of dignitaries. 15
