The Kit- han-ne stat? believes that our school life is compar- able tothe stage. We-like the stage--have our actresses, actors, understudies, directors, and producers. For this reason, we have used scenes from the stage to illus- trate our annual. In the years to come, the Kit-han-ne will help you to remember your school. It is a point which can, and often does, represent the beginning of a new and even more challenging phase in the life of the graduate. Not the least of the challenges is the need for the young graduate to recognize the need for continu- ing his education. lt is my hope that the members of the Class of 1959 ofthe Kitton- ning High School will not only recognize this need but will face the challenge and will continue with their education for be- yond high school, will make it a personal thing to be continued throughout life. Hall To the Members of the Class of 1959 ln spite of all that we hear, l believe that America's greatest problem today is not outer space, but inner man. The chal- lenges of a rival ideology emphasize the need for people of tremendous spiritual, mental and physical strength in our nation. The potential for this lies in each of you. I hope that you will exert it to the utmost, and play a big role in preserving the free- dom which we prize so dearly. Paul D. Breon Paul D. Breon .aff To the Members of the Class of 1959 Never before has a good education been so essential to youth as it is today. Advancement in all fields is moving at a rapid pace. To keep up with it, you must apply yourselves with diligence. May you look toward your goal with enthusiasm and continually experience success. Wade C. ' ' gwwz The Student Council of Kittanning Junior High School is a governing body that gives the student a chance to voice his opinion. The coun- cil consists of a representative from each home- room, the four officers, and our sponsors, Miss Foreman and Mr. Leech. A STUCO meeting is held each Wednesday to which a representative or alternate must attend. At each homeroom meeting each student has a chance to voice com- plaints or suggestions that should be brought before the next council meeting. The STUCO has sponsored many proiects this year for community and school betterment, such as a Magazine Campaign, Selling Shares, Dances and a Monitor System. The past two years the Student Council has purchased a showcase and bulletin boards for the school. This year we plan to spend approxi- mately S400 for items for the school. ' PM The Man Who Came To Dinner, a three act comedy, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, was presented by the Senior Class on March 20, 1959, in the Junior High School Auditorium. This hilarious production is centered around portly Sheridan Whiteside, noted lecturer and critic, and his capable secretary Maggie Cutler. While touring in the small town of Mesalia, Ohio, Mr. Whiteside is asked to dine at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stanley, only to fall on their icy doorstep. The result was a broken hip, causing Sherry to be confined to the household for several weeks. He upsets the whole household and everyone in it. In- terfering with his secretary's love affair, Whiteside leads everyone into mass confusion. I may vomit. Sam, don't forget that last line. ' ' ,Siudanii fnuncil, The Student Council is the heart of our school. lt consists of one representative from each home- room, four officers, three class presidents, a for- eign exchange student and a summer exchange student. Our sponsor is Miss Pauline Smith. Mr. Paul Breon, our principal, works very closely with our organization and gives us his wholehearted support. The Executive Council plans the agenda every Monday for the Student Council which meets the following day. Reports of this confer- ence are presented to the student body on Wed- nesday during the guidance period. The Council is proud of its active program of activities. A large number of proiects have been engaged during the year. Some ofthe most im- portant have been the Kittanning-Ford City After- game Dance, the Magazine Campaign, School Visitations, the Art Pallan Heart Fund Dance, Share Their Fare AFS Assemblies and Campaign. The Council is responsible for the success of the foreign exchange student program which it started in 1955. Next year will mark the arrival of the fifth foreign student in our school. We hope that another Kittanning student will be chosen to represent our school abroad again this summer. Crammer, is the high- est governing body in Kittanning High School consisting of fifteen representatives. The Board meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the Activities Room. Present at these meetings is a representative group of the admin- istration, board of education, faculty, alumni, and student body. The sophomore girl member acts as secretary to the board and a faculty mem- ber serves as treasurer. The chairman is Mr. Paul D. Breon, Senior High Principal. The function of the Board is to discuss and take action upon items brought to its attention by the chairman. Each activity in the school is also required to submit a tentative budget for the next year to the Board. The chairman ap- points a committee to study each budget and make a report to the Board. Each activity is re- quired to submit requests for all money making projects at the same time. Sitting, left to right: larry Skinner, Sonja Rancher, Sally Adelson, Mary Jean Biddle, Mr, Paul D. Mr. Rimmey, our new coach, worked the boys very hard. It took them awhile to get used to his type of coaching, but by the time they were considered to be one ot the toughest teams in the section. The Wildcats this year held one rare distinction-they beat Ford City on their own floor. Each member of the squad tried and bustled his vest in each game. With the number of juniors and sophomores that saw var- sity action, the team for next year should win the majority of its games. As for the seniors they may be proud of their unquench- able spirit and effort. This season enabled the boys to build a better character and display their competitive spirits. Wrestling in Kittanning High School this year has certainly gained a firm foothold. Our team has not only proven how enjoy- able the sport can be, but also has accom- plished its purpose to have ca winning team. Our boys had an excellent team rec- ord as well as successful individual scores. We are proud of the efforts put forth by the team during the tournament at Shaler. Wynn Abranovic came back from Shaler as section champion in the 154 pound weight class. We want to congratulate the entire team and Mr. Fowlkes for their tremendous contribution to K. H.S., and we hope, as they do, that wrestling will continue to gain in popularity throughout the coming year. And so team, Good Luck to you!
