E iv1'!V E 5 I Q ' r PREVIEW All the world is cz stageg And all the men and women merely players. f- Slmlccspeare 1 This year we chose to present our yearbook with the theme of a play. All students must necessarily appear on this stage of life, and we hope this book will keep alive memories of inci- dents and friends on this huge stage for many long years. Many of our classmates have left our stage to appear in much more important theatres-our theatres of War. We are aware that today these represent our most important theatres. The players on these stages are too often forced to face real tragedy which is depicted in this book as the mask of tragedy. We began our high school career as the Class of '44 in the fall of 1940. War clouds were hovering over our great nation at that time and on December 8, 1941, World War ll began. As our class has gone on to higher heights in our various subjects in K. H. S. curriculum, likewise, have our armed forces gone on to greater and greater victories. ln years to come we will look back upon these dark years and realize that our school days were a time when an important part of American history was being made. With the wish that the scene changes soon and that our classmates and all the World may discard their part in the real- ness of this tragedy and instead play their role in a life of use- fulness and honor, we present this issue of the Kit-han-ne to the Class of 1944. Although we were not always top scorers our team provided us with some very exciting moments. Due to the war we had to get some ot our players from the under classes. These boys, even though young and inexperi- enced, proved the saying, Where theres a willy theres a Way. We are proud of our team, because the players were all good sportsmen. We hope they enjoyed playing for K. H, S. as much as We enjoyed Watching them play. They were termed among the local teams as the Hdimunitive squadug rreve ertheless, they were quite often the victor. Several times they met with defeat, but they came back each time with several knock-out punches. Their skill, fair play and surprise baskets brought the crowd to their feet many times. All students caught cutting classes will be personally decorated by Mr. Laing with merit badges for valor. In case of death the badges will be awarded posthumously. Make lots of noise While running through the halls. We musn't let our school become dull and dreary, kiddies. Don't come to school too early. Why, if everybody came to school on time Mr. Mathes would lose his job. Throw lots of paper on the floors. Arrange it in artistic piles on the stairs, in the halls, and in your classroom. Remember, leave no bare space uncovered! 9 The official school song has been changed to 'Pistol Packin' Mama' to be sung loudly Whenever the spirit moves you, especially dur- ing class. Heres a new contest to occupy your dull- er hours in class-an eraser duel. You may make your own game rules and regulations. Extra points should be given for each teacher hit on the head or elsewhere. For goodness sakes, can't you be more polite in assemblies. It's terribly embarrassing for some of these unprepared speakers to have to entertain an attentive audience. Make more noise -4 laugh, yell, crackle paper f anything to help our poor guests save face. l-lere's a new and interesting diversion for you who eat your lunch in the building. After you have finished eating scatter all your refuse such as banana peels, orange peels, greasy wax paper, etc., throughout the halls. You can have such mad, mad fun watching un- suspecting students slip tliterallyl into school. The following have been added to the list of excusable absenses: hunting, attending Stan- ley theatre, shopping for clothes, just too tired too come. You'll indulge in these pastimes anyway and we don't Want you to have a guilty conscience-so why not make it legiti- mate. Indulge in an argument with a teacher fold fashioned fist fight not exceptedl when her opinion differs with yours. With some of the brawnier teachers you are taking your life in your own hands, but don't you think it's worth the fun you'll have? A new type of school garb has been adopted: slacks, shorts, or two piece bathing suits for the girls: striped lounging pajamas and bathrobes for the boys. lt'll be loads more comfy this way. Brighten the pages of your textbooks with witty sayings, snappy drawings, etc. Carve your name and year on all the desks. Thus, you will leave your record and set a fine ex- ample for future posterity. Petitions for a six month school year and a four hour school day will be given careful consideration by the office.
