Jean Campbell, Head Girl Sandy Maclntyre, Head Boy The year has passed so quickly that already we find it is time to say goodbye and thank-you. What we learned during our time as Head Boy and Head Girl is something neither of us would want to trade. There were good times and of course a fair share of bad times. To Mr. Eccles we say thank-you for patience and advice, to Mr. Craig for understanding and the execut- ive for help. For those who will never return to KCI may you have success and happiness and to the undergrads who plan to come back, give some of yourself to the school. For us it is the end of high school life but for you next year is a new beginning. Use the opportunity. 72-73 was an enjoyable year for both of us. Thank- you for all you have given us. A school is a building and an institution, but more important, a school is people - individuals who, in effect, create the school. In Grumbler ' 73 we have tried to show KCI, not as just a building and classes, but as a meeting place of people and ideas. We used the theme, ' Nostalgia ' and at sever- al places in the book we have made use of pic- tures from old yearbooks. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did. Being editor this year has taught me alot. I was at times confronted with enthusiasm and will ingness, but more often with irresponsibility and apathy. We ' ve had our misunderstandings and argu- ments, but now that its all over, I ' d like to say thanks to everyone for their help and co-operat- ion in the production of Grumbler ' 73. Mr. C. T. Craig Principal ' s Message One of the greatest challenges we will have to face evet is before us now; the challenge is to match our educational programmes to the individual needs of the student and to the demands and needs of the community. The Credit System in which the student has freedom of choice in selecting courses and in which promotion is by subject does much to meet part of the challenge. Liaison with business and industry through the research that our tech- nical and commercial departments are doing at the present time will help us to meet another part of the challenge. The Semester Programme, to be introduced at K-W C V S in the fall of 1973, will achieve the following goals: (a) the student will concentrate on at least three and not more than four subjects in each semester. The success of the Waterloo County Board of Education ' s Summer School programmes indicates that such concentration creates great- ter interest and allows greater intensity of study which results in better achievement. (b) the student will be responsible to three or four teachers in each semester; the assignments and homework will be in three or four subject areas rather than in seven or eight as is now the case. (c) periods three and four, which are the lunch periods, overlap; thus each teacher and each student is guar- anteed at least thirty-seven minutes for lunch. Classes will be finished at three twenty-one which will allow for greater involvement in extracurricular activities. (d) student timetables generally will be more compact than previously, with fewer spares. (e) teachers will see half their students each semester; this should deepen the staff-student relationship and promote the type of co-operation among the parent, the student and the teacher which is necessary for academic success. For these goals to be reached, much hard work and dedication by staff and students are necessary. Semester time- tabling, involvement with the community, and the Credit System can only benefit and improve the educational en- vironment at K.C.I, if we all give our best. My sincere congratulations to the editors, the staff and the sponsors of the Grumbler for a very fine Yearbook.
