Led by co-captains Andy Toncic and Carl Tal- bott, the 1973 Cougars gained second place in the l.S.P.L. behind co-champions University School and Nichols Academy. A fine balance between running and receiving enabled this team to twice shatter the school's single game-scoring record with victories over Shady Side C44-OJ and Cran- brook Q42-141. Early in the season, however, the Cougars suf- fered disheartening losses to Plum and University School which ruined the team's dream of having a highly successful season. Following the loss to University School, the Cougars staged a late sea- son rally to win three of their final four games. This surge included a come-from-behind victory over Western Reserve in which the Cougars came back from a 13-0 halftime deficit to win 20-13. 148 cial'-ia I Q, H
