e t ATHLETICS - l94 -46 Any review of the sports picture for the past year would not be complete unless a few complaints were registered against the Goddess of Chance that mighty lady who decides which way a football will bounce who guides the talterlng basketball un errmgly oyer the rim and who generally disports herself in a yery lady like way when she is not smiling on the home team Miss Chance was hrst noticed in the Norwm game frown mg around the signboard in the hrst half when two Kiski touch clowns were called back and again in the final quarter when a fifteen yard penalty gave Norwm a first down inside the Kxski ten yard line She must haxe laughed herself to sleep that night because if memory serves us correctly the score was Norwm I2 Klikl 6 and an undefeated s ason had gone glimmering on the hrst day The Shady Lady had another big night when the team played Penn High Up and down the field the big black team paraded gaming enough ground to win two games but the foot ball wouldnt bounce straight and the team suffered its second heartbreaking loss From here on Kiski s team made its own breaks but all was not smoo h sailing Four more touchdowns were called back during the remainder of the season but the team was too good to let that bother it With the exception of the Central Catholic game which was the cruelest blow of all your observer never saw a team throw off so many bad breaks as did the Kiski team But for that fumble in the last minutes of the Central game which turned a richly deserved victory nto a bitter tie K ski would have been recognized for what it was one of the two or three best school teams in Pennsylvania Coaches who scouted Kiskr the latter part of the season were unanimous in saying that it was one of the smoothest offensive teams they had ever seen Our friends and we use that phrase with bitter irony in our souls the Goddess of Chance really trained her guns on the basketball team and opened up with both barrels Never dcfeated badly during the whole season Kiski lost four games by a combined total of six points and each one of these came in the last few seconds The team was good their spirit was excellent at all times but the lack ot ability to wm the close ones made their record a mediocre one The loss of Scott at mid yelr cannot be oxer emphasized in the flml reckoning It is safe to say that the tcam would not hue lost morc thin two or threc games with him participat ng in the last half of the schcdule 'lhe swimming tc im s short season was nippecl in the bud by the pink eye cpidemic but the materials are here for 1 good tc 1m nevt ycar with Sober Sau e Stover Gibson larrell and Mcllvunc ill coming nc I Mm kr be n ma ked by an amazingly large turnout Brown Soser Wiseman Farrell Turick md Rommc hue all been outstanding in early meets and the sictory over Flders Ridge and Siltsburg April Nth showed the team gaining strength in esery cyent as the season gitliers momentum The installation of the new Byron Bahr memorial trick this May will add an excellent new featurc to the K ski athlctrc plant The ground work has been done this yclr so that in the future track will once again take its place as one of lxiski s most popular sports Thc minor sports this spring tcnnis and golf arc getting 1 tremendous play Led by Brown Alcxander Moore Howes md Mrlliman the tcnnis team promrs s to be one ot the best in the history of the school The golf team shows no outstanding players but the number of boys participating in this sport is once again back to pre war level Thc first sw men on thc team a e xery ex enly matched which gnes the team good balance The Campbell boys Boyd and Chuck Tom Smith Loren l'errall De De Mclxee and Dan Schmidt have the inside lane tor positions at the present time The baseball team gnes promise of becoming the strongest in years at Kiski Wfith Bob Gray back to pitch again and immy Duke a yery capable recener Coach Moginot has a xery dependable battery Ritchie Pollock Eyerson ind Caldwell make a fine mheld which is packed with hitting power The out field anchored by Spahr an outstanding detensne man in center held should prose adequate The team shows balance all down the line ind should turn in a fine season 19-L6 KISKIMINETAN 7 V V D V I Y , Y N i . , . .
