The wrestling team was disappointing in the matter of matches won and lost also, but the improve- ment shown by these boys in the course of the season was tremendous. Milliman, Anderson, and Leitch were outstanding all year but as a group the team lacked balance. Secondary school wrestling is de- veloped to a very high degree in the schools of western Pennsylvania. Most of the coaches have their wrestlers for at least four years. This makes it difficult for our one- and two-year men to compete on an equal footing. Despite this handicap, Coach Zeigler's teams give an excellent account of them- selves, and as individuals the boys never stop trying no matter what the odds. The good showing by the three members of the team previously mentioned in the Eastern Interscholastics at Lehigh, gave a real lift to wrestling at Kiski E Ze1gle1 VARSITY BASEBAII Continued from Page 69 fact that he slammed two prodigious home runs in the game against Axonmore one 1 ll1e111 cleared the bl0ddtc1Jlll1g lmnlb 111 Ie t leld Ien eel blgfl At third is im Ritchie xcteran who has shown signs of real power on occasions im is an unusual player Hc will have a fielding lapse only to come baclc with a long hit or a sensational play afield Bob Anderson Bill Spahr Iarmer im Steckel and ohn Coppie represent the outfield Bob is a good hitter and Helder with an excellent eye at the plate Bill Spahr is probably the best man on the team He s a mary elous Helder a great hitter a fast base runner a headsup player and cm do yust about anything synonymous with the dia mond sport Any Illpelldfllk med I deinlbe B111 II pw ecrly 111511 red im Steckel is another of Kiski s home run hitters Hardly a game goes by that im doesnt get a hit beginning of the year but went into a slump He bar the moi! 11111111111 baflmg iltzme 1111 the le rm lxislci opened its season with lndima md lost 9 l while being held to two huts Bob Gray was tagged with the loss and Vic Polloclc and Bill Spahr hld the losers hits In their next outing against Bell Township KlSl'cl won its first game 5 -I lim Steckel paced the locals hitting tttaclt with a triple and single while im Caldwell col lected two hits Kislci also won its next cncounter The team dropped Asonmore by the tremend ous score of '6 7 with practically cxerybody producing a base hit Vic Pollock led the attaclc with four hits including two home runs After these yictories our nine dropped three games in a row to Saltsburg Indiana again and Bell Township The season should howexer produce 1 good many more sictories 1946 KISKIMINETAN 6s A ' A ' ' Q f f fn Q J ' ,-1 fi . y ,A . . , I .- B - . . . ll I ,V 4. 0 UQ4, .. y He is .1 very steady ball player and Kiski's fourth batter. john Coppie hit well at the I
