Graduating in 19hU with a Bachelor of Science in chemical lngineering he has commissioned an lnsign and ordered to Dss HwHNl Hthlklli fine-T1 as auxiliaries Ufficer. Prom UUUNI Hth1Nl1i he has ordered in September of 1901 to U55 hYANDOl tiha-OJ? as Damage tontrol Assistant, and then, in August of l9o2, to dss HXHwlU J, Lllliwh QDD-Hell as heapons officer. In Decemher of lvhl he rvrdrted iw tue hureau of Naval Personnel to hecome a Project Wanager iir lngint ring lraining Programs. He remained in this hillet until Jrauary uf lapu then he sas ordered to south lietnam and River Patrol wiiision ill as Hperations Ufficer. ln ieteher of latf he became commander River Patrol Division 532, then stationed in the Delta area of lietnam. During this tour his unit was awarded the Presidential Unit citation and two Navy Unit conmwndations for its achievements, and he was personally decorated sith the Bronze Star with the combat distinguishing device. After 53 comhat missions he turned over his command and returned to the United States. ln August of 19o8 he reported to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where he earned a degree in Ordnance Engineering and was assigned a suhspecialty code of 8002. Upon graduation he was ordered to U53 hllli HAWK CCY-o3j as Damage control Assistant. Re- porting in June of 1971 he became immediately involved in an accela- rated preparation for deployment due to an increase in hostilities in southeast Asia. lor his performance during this period he was awarded a Letter of Commendation hy Commander Naval Air Forces Pacific. When he was detached from HlVlY HAWK in August of 1973 the ship had heen awarded the Navy Unit Commendation QCDK fU5CALDO's third awardj and he had earned the Navy Commendation Medal. from Klfli HANK he reported to USS NAYASUTA CAO-1061 as hxecutive Officer. During his tour the ship won the Battle Efficiency Award fBatt1e Ptnj signifying overall preemince in its competitive cate- gory. Upon completion of this tour he was transferred to Naval Weapons Support Center, crane, Indiana as head of the Engineering and Design Division of the Urdnance Department. After a short stay in this hillet he hecame Director of Ordnance and, as such, was respon- sible for all phases of the manufacture, production and storage of many items of nnvil ordnance Un December 26, l3To he relieved as com andin! Officer of USS KISRA LAL-351, the Navy's newest ammunition ship and helped prioneer mini-multi concept of Mobile Logistics Sup- port in the Pacific lleet. Just as he was finishing this tour, KISKA was awarded the first Battle Phu in its six year life as a commis- sioned ship. CLARK entered the United States Navy Officer Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island in Vehruary 1961 after graduating from the University of Alabama 'ith ,A.' a Bachelor of Science Degree in Lducation. Vrior to entering the Navy, he served in the United States Xir lorce in in enlisted status from IDSU to 1954. He was conmussioned an Lnsign day ll, 1961 and reported ahoard D55 LLKHUL JUALS QDL-lU33i at hey hest, llorida. He was assigned the billet uf lirst Lieutenant, the anti-Submarine Officer and later Uunnta3'lJfficer. ln Nav 1961, he has ordered to the USS HENRY COUNTY LLSI SZJJ as the Lxecutive Officer at San Diego, California. Navy deployments were completed in the Yietnam area and surrounding waters in provid- ing logistic support within areas inaccessible to deeper draft ships. In September 1965 he received orders to report to the Commander, Philadelphia Croup Atlantic Reserve fleet as Prospective Commanding Officer for the reactivation of USS MEEKER COUNTY CLST 9801. Upon completion of the ship's reactivation at Philadelphia and the crew's training at Little Creek, Virginia, the ships was assigned to Com- mander Landing Ships Squadron THREE, homeported in Guam. MEEKER COUNTY served in the waters of Vietnam in direct support of military forces in the I and IV Corps area. In July 1968, CDR CLARK was ordered to the Staff, Commander Amphibious Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet where he served in the Read- iness and Training Section. Later he transfered to the Logistics Section where he became the Force 3M Team Manager. After his tour with COMPHIBPAC, he reported on 12 August 1970 as Commanding Officer, USS WASUTENAW COUNTY CLST 11661, homeported at Yokosuka, Japan. This duty included Market Time Support operations in Vietnamese waters, logistic support of Marine Corps operations in Okinawa!Japan, and the initial withdrawal operations of men and equipment from Vietnam Operations Round Robin. In September 1972, he reported to Naval Amphibious School, Coronado and served as Director of the Ship to Shore Department. The tour included supervising a staff of 32 instructors fofficer and enlistedj in teaching eighteen different courses of instruction to fleet personnel. He reported as Executive Officer to USS LASALLE QAGF SJ, Flagship for Commander Middle East Force, in July 1976. The politico-military tour covered the Persian Gulf, Red Sea and Indian ocean areas. He reported to Navy Astronautics Group CNAVASTROGRUJ, at Point Mugu, California as Executive Officer. NAVASTROGRU's mission is to maintain and update the Navy Navigational Satellite System CNNSSJ. CDR CLARK has completed an Associate Degree in Industrial Engine- ering from Southwestern Junior College, San Diego and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University, Los Angeles. 5 -16 nuff Q gf!
