Recovering from this early setback, the B boys fought a valiant battle against a talented Normandy team only to drop the game by one touchdown 6-O. However, after dropping their next encoun- ter to Clayton 7-O, they conquered a rugged University City eleven with a sparkling aerial attack. S. student coun- ctl, for in this organization many laborious tasks are undertaken in a democratic way under the leadership of Mr. Sarff. Very often after new developments are attempted, the organization must wait to see if the out- come will be advantageous. This year, for instance, a new system in electing repre- sentatives was instigated. Each class in the senior high selected by secret ballot fifteen students with outstanding character and ability .gguvfenf Counci as their representatives. Then class officers were also chosen by secret ballot. So far this system seemingly has proved much better than the one used heretofore. These members un- failingly and energetically took care of the Snack Bar , an afternoon recreation center. They also have helped at P. T. A. meetings and ushered at basketball games. With the assistance of the council telephoning, baby sitting, and running taxi service , they uri- doubtedly played an effective part in helping to pass the tax levy. They also admirably promote the May Eete and the Coronation Prom. Enjoyed by all the students are the talent and the talent exchange assemblies the council makes possible. Still achieving, still pursuing the Student Council supplies the democratic leadership for K. H. S. S. is not an active club as an independent society for it consists of an honorary group who pro- mote standards of excellence in journalism and have served the Pioneer and the Call. As a branch of the High School lnternational Iour- nalistic Society, it is held in high esteem by the student body. The members must meet the requirements of a junior standing, being in the upper third of their class scholastically, and having completed outstanding work in some phase of journalism, which at K. H. S. could only be the Pioneer or the Call. This year the effective initiation at the home of Adrienne Andrews, and plans to meet with other county chapters to hear recognized journalists shows that the club is stepping in the right direction of effective journalism, under the cosponsor- ship of Mrs. Ste-inkamp and Miss Welsh. The teamwork in producing the harmonious music proves to be an inspiration to the fans, whether the K. H. S. Pioneers are losing or winning. During the year, the senior loand tends to raise the standards and understanding of music in our school and community. Their colorful performances in the various assemblies as well as the Christmas and Spring concerts are always well received. As one of the outf standing musical organizations on the county cur loand always is awarded an excephonai rating at the County Music Festival under the able direction of Mr. Burton lsaac. The :natty musically interested students at K. H. S. are to be highly commended for the rrpariy hours of hard work and early rising that :flakes the h-and possible. Still like muff! Page Ninety S enior OrcAe5fra One of the schools finest examples oz co- operation resulting in a pleas1na finished product is the sen1or orchestra. Under the ex- cellent direction of Mr. Burton Isaac, a larae number ot musically talented students are taught orchestral music. Among the year's developments were the KVJK l-hah School Review, the Christmas Cor.- cert, and the annual Spring Concert. The grow- Lna inter-school interest of music was well typi- fied by a combination ot the strinq sections ot 'Nenstens and Kirlcwoods orchestras in a beautiful two-hour concert and the Music Festi- val tn the spring which is attended by many county musical groups was the climax of the year's accomplishments. Experiences oi these lcinds, developed only in actual participation, promote not only an opportunity to develop the musical talent of students, but stimulate an appreciation of better music by the student body as well as the community.
