H ockey CE hockey, which three years ago was a minor sport in the leading universities of America, today is the major sport for the winter. The A. S. O., always ready to vie for honors, was not to be outdone, and in 1923 sent a hockey team East to try the metal of the best teams there. In the games played the IQ25 team did well, all conditions being considered. Having gained a standing, the 1924 schedule found the Rams lined up against the best teams in the Middle West and against the Army at West Point in the East. To give the team a fair start, it was sent to Toronto, Ont., to practice on artincial ice for two weeks. The result of this training was much apparent when the team defeated the strong University of Michigan, champions of the Big Ten Conference, by the score of 6f3. The season opened at Toronto, Canada, with a victory for the Rams and was folf lowed with equal success until the Rams played the Galt, Ont., A. H. A. Seniors. The Rams took the short end of a IO'3 score, but the defeat was no disgrace as the Galt team was runnerfup for the Canadian Olympic honors. The next and last game was with the University of Michigan, where the Rams defeated the Wolverines. Incidentally, this was the Wolverines' iirst loss of the year. Unfortunately the games with the Army and Notre Dame were cancelled due to the lack of ice. The hockey prospect for 1925 looks very bright. Although the Rams will lose four of the regulars the nucleus left with promised new material will undoubtedly live up to the team's past performances. While in Toronto the team was coached by Dr. J. J. O'Connor and cared for by the Toronto Association of Osteopathic Physicians. Their hospitality and kindnesses make a wonderful object lesson for the graduate hockeyists should they have a chance to entertain an A. S. O. Athletic team on a trip. Page 210

The following players made the 1924 Eastern trip: Frank Mitchell CCapf tainj, Gordon Atkinson CManagerD, Okey O'Connor, Bert Wright, Fred Rutherford, Eric Johnston, Grant Braund. In spite of their best efforts to win the second game of the season, Michigan's hockey art- ists were forced to bow to the superior all' around play of the sextet representing the Amer- ican School of Osteopf athy by a score of 6-3 last night at the Coli' seum .... It is no disgrace to the Michigan sextet to have lost to their oppof nents, who boasted of one of the best hockey teams ever seen in Ann Arbor. Both in individf ual play and in team' work, the osteopaths showed brilliant form. The result was that the Michigan defense was drawn apart and then excellent stick work and accurate shooting of the Doctors came into play. -College paper at Ann Arbor.
