At all times our companion and advisor, Dr. H. V. Halladay, has been with us guiding, advising, cheering. We are indebted to Dr. Ray G. Hulburt in many ways, but particularly for the History of the A. S. O. and for assistance in compiling the Alumni Directory, and to The Neuron for some of the baseball scores. 'Ghe fl. S. O. Neuron 5 pr 1 1 Q M. G. ELLINGER T. R. WRIGHT HE birth of The A. S. O. Neuron dates back to the fall of 1912 and to members of the June ,IS class goes the credit for the achievement. The idea came about as the result of strong fraternalism existing within the schoo1's ranks at that time. Four organizations were functioning, and a secret combine of two each was common opinion. The june '15 class, then frosh, decided that this sort of thing was unethical, and in general, a detriment to the individuals of the institution, so an organization was formed to promote better feeling. It was then that The Neuron, as a means of publishing facts regarding conditions, was decided upon. r Only a few men were associated with this organization, enough, however, for a much larger staff than at present. Buck Weaver being the sponsor, was made the editorfinfchief, while Del Martz was elected to the office of advertising manager. With these were associated in different capacities, F. O. Humbert, Mickey Malone, F. A. Dilatush, Fred Olds, John A. Hiss and M. W. Hoover. Weaver's room was over the Owl Drug Store, and there it was that the plot was laid and the organization formed. They originally intended to publish anonymously. During the war the paper was discontinued, due to the small classes and lack of support. Its undisturbed peace, however, was 'broken in the fall of 1921, when it was rejuvenated by Messrs. Ellis, Farbestein and Johnson. Under this management it flourf ished to more or less degree until September, 1922, when it was purchased by Mercer G. Ellinger and T. R. Wright. Under this regime it has functioned ever since, making many friends-and enemies. An unbiased platform was ever maintained for A. S. O.-first, last and always. Page 196
