enior Cfaaa .MA fory In September of 1952 a group of Freshmen stood in front of Kirkman Voca- tional High School wondering what the next four years held in store. Now they know, for those years have passed, and it's time to write another class history. Freshman officers elected were: Gary Lord, president, Richard Gallaher, sec- retary, Thelma Christian, treasurer, Jimmy Fine, reporter. The class, sponsored by Mrs. Millsaps, enjoyed a picnic at Lake Winnepesaukah in May. The same group of students with a few new students came back to school as sophomores in September, 1953. In November the following officers were elected: Peggy Newman, president, Blaine Roberts, vice-presidentg Doris Ritchie, secretary, Patsy Roberts, treasurer, Thelma Christian, reporter. Coach Carr and Mrs. Mill- saps were chosen as sponsors. In May the annual picnic at Lake Winnepesaukah was held, and soon everyone went his way for the three-month vacation. A somewhat grown-up group of juniors assembled in September, 1954, and selected Miss Katharine Bennett, Mrs. Edith Apperson, and Mr. Earl Sharrock to help them with numerous class activities. Officers of the class were: Richard Bush, president, U. S. Myers, vice-president, Doris Ritchie, secretary, Johnnie Faye Grant, treasurer, Peggy Breeden, reporter. Big events of the Junior year were The all- Kirkman Mixer, The King and Queen of Hearts Party, and the 15th annual junior-Senior Banquet. In May the class held its picnic at Lake Winnepesaukah. At last the long-awaited year arrived and a happy and excited group of 144, Kirkman's largest Senior Class, gathered in September, 1955. The size of the class. its co-operative attitude, and exceptional school spirit promised to make this class not only the largest but one of Kirkman's best. Mrs. Willie Blanche Looney was elected sponsor of the class, and Miss Charlotte Roesslein was elected eo-sponsor. Mr. joseph Frazier was elected shop sponsor. Officers elected were: Richard Bush, president, Waymon Gaither, vice-president, Emmeline Conner, secretary, Betty Lackey, treasurerg Don Dunn, reporter, and Bill Cowart, parliamentarian. In October the Seniors began their sale of Christmas cards and in November held the largest and most successful carnival ever sponsored at Kirkman. At Christ- mas the class enjoyed a party and participated in a Christmas Project. April 15, Senior Day was observed with gala costumes, a luncheon, and a half- day holiday. That night the Seniors sponsored the Tacky Party in the future Foun- dry Shop. May 27, Class Day Exercises were held during which Mr. and Miss Kirkman were crowned and other superlatives were presented. The Class Gift was also pre- sented to the school. The Baccalaureate Services were held May 29 and followed with a reception in honor of parents, friends and faculty. One June 1, 1955, the most sorrowful yet most joyful event for Seniors was held at Dickinson Junior High School-Commencement Exercises. Next day, June 2, Seniors were gathering bright and early for their long-anticipated class trip and the last official act of the class of 1955. -by Barbara Barnes CLASS FLOWER: Carnations CLASS COLORS: Red and White CLASS MOTTO: To finish, we must first begin X 1-1 -I ai-fix X s ,YA f, 33 JD A .
