CLASS HISTORY September 3 1946 marked the begmmng of a new eplsode m the llves of a group of young boys and gnrls who entermg the halls of Knrkman Vocational Hugh School were embarking upon a most xmportant and memorable era of thelr lxves After a short delay thxs group of students engaged nn the task of selectxng nts sponsors and leaders for the year Mr Keller was elected class sponsor Mrs Sweetland and Mrs Reeves were se lected co sponsors The class offncers were Edward Gossett prestdent jerry Cooper vxce presndent Geraldme Varner secretary Bnllxe Sue Burkett treasurer It benng thenr flrst year at Kjrkman the class actnvmes were not very numerous A Christmas party followed by a party in the sprmg composed the actnvntnes for the freshman class The followmg year the class organnzed as sophomores Mr Sam jones was chosen class spon sor and Mr Cardwell was elected co sponsor Bxlly Dean was selected as presldent jerry Cooper vnce presndent Mona Sue Chauncey secretary and Blllle Sue Burkett treasurer A skatmg party was the first of the HCIIVIUCS of the sophomores The Thanksgxvxng program was sponsored by the class and at Chrlstmas a class party was enjoyed by all A pxcnlc at Lake Wnnnepesaukah concluded the actnvmes of the sophomore class September of 1948 the class again orgamzed thls time as jumors Mxss Bennett was elected sponsor and Mrs Apperson co sponsor for the class Officers elected were Tommy Evans presx A folk game party rn the early part of the year was a big success as was the junxor Chrnstmas party A tacky party was sponsored nn the sprmg and Pan Gap was the scene of the class ptcnnc at the end of the year The Class of 1950 organnzed for the last tnme nn September of 1949 Now they were full fledged senxors Mlss Wheeler was chosen by the class to be nts sponsor and Mnss Roesslenn was selected as co sponsor Tommy Evans was agaln elected presndent of the class Alan Clepper was elected vlce presldent juamta Holcombe secretary and jerry Cooper treasurer The new offnce of parlnamentarran was filled by john Clayton Due to juamta s wrthdrawal from school early rn the year Fay Reese was elected to succeed as secretary A skatnng party early 1n the year started the full year of class actxvltles The sale of Chrxst mas cards proved a successfu money makmg venture and only those who experxenced xt can re late the overwhelmmg acclalm won by the Senior Carmval tn December This event not only added enjoyment but substantxally nncreased the funds of the class The senlor Chrlstmas party proved very very successful Toys enjoyed during the evenmg by Sennors were left to be dxstrxbuted to famllxes where they would be most apprecnated February 24 was the date of Senlor Open House and parents faculty and frrends of the school experrenced an evemng of congemal fellowshxp long to be remembered The gnft of the class to the school a sxlver tea set was used for the first txme on thls occaslon Actlvmes of the Senxor Class of 1950 were drawn to a close wlth the observance of Senior Day Class Day the jumor Senxor Banquet and a class trnp Baccalaureate Sermon was preached on Sunday May 21 For the last txme the members gath ered as a group on May 24 1950 at Park Place Audxtornum to recenve the coveted dxplomas and thus perform thexr last offncnal act as the Class of 1950 , , . . . . . . , , . , . . . , - .
