TRAVELERS BEAT MORTON MEMORIAL ' After three weeks of hard practice Kirklin journeyed to Morton Memorial for their first game. The game be- came a battle of defenses from the opening kickoff, with each team failing to gain very many first downs. Mid-way in the second quarter Kirklin received the ball on a punt from Mo'ton. A twenty-five yard pass from Buntin to Bob Price put the ball on the Morton two yard line. Good blocking allowed Buntin to sweep around right end to score the only touch- down of the game. The try for the extra point failed and the score stood 6-0. The teams played on about even terms for the rest of the game. 'A' KIRKLIN ROMPS OYER CHARLTON 63-0 On September 10th the Kirklin squad journeyed to Charlton CBoys' Schooll for a football game which turned out to be more of a track meet. The Tiger team could not get through Kirklin's strong defensive wall for the first half and lost a total of 21 yards. The Tigers did not gain a first down until the middle of the third period, and then another in the last. It was easy to de- termine in the first quarter what the outcome of the game was to be. Touchdowns were made by: Loveless. McCoskey. Buntin. B. Price. Martin. Extra points were made by: Buntin. Martin, Stevenson. Douglass and from a safety. Two other touchdowns were made. one because of a penalty and the other by a referee's mis- take. The game was one in which Kirklin had an oppor- tunity to try out a variety of plays. it KIRKLIN UPSETS BHOXYNSBURG 120-6 The Travelers took on a powerful Brownsburg team at Kirklin on Sept. 17th and won their third straight game of the season. Kirklin opened the scoring in the second quarter by driving to the Brownsburg 10 yard line. when two plays later. Buntin scored on a slash through the right side of the line for a touch- down. He made the extra point. Brownshurg scored shortly after that by blocking a Kirklin punt on Kirklin's 15 yard line. They failed to make the extra point. In the final period, thc Travelers scored twice. Martin did some fine running and got the ball to the Brownsburg 20 yard line. From there, with fine blocking from teammates, Buntin made the touchdown. Stevenson plunged over for the extra point that made the score 14 to 6. A few minutes later Buntin tossed a 25 yard pass to right end. Bob Price, who was all alone in the end zone. The Kirklin line gave Brownsburg a rough time on both defensive and offensive playing during the entire game. NIGHTHAXVKS BEAT KIRKLIN 27-1-1 Frankfort kicked off to the Travelers and they marched to the 20 yard line where Buntinis pass was intercepted in the end zone. The ball was brought out to the 20 yard line and Frankfort marched 80 yards for a touchdown and an extra point. Then. in the second quarter. the Nighthawks' Lucas ran 6-1 yards for a touchdown and Unroe went through the middle of the Traveler line for the 1-ith point. A few minutes later another break for Frankfort came when they intercepted a pass and ran to the 10 yard line. The next play they scored: then the half end- ed with a score of 20 to U. The second half the Travelers kicked off to Frank- fort but this time Kirklin stopped them and they were forced to kick. Buntin ran it back to the 15 yard line. Three plays later he scored. Then Frankfort made their final score on a lateral pass play and they also made their extra point. The Kirklin defense pushed Frankfort into the end zone for two points. Martin returned the kick-off to the -18 yard line. A few plays later Bob Price. on a reverse. ran around left end to the 20 yard line. Two plays later Kirk- lin scored. The game ended with the score Frankfort 27 and Kirklin 14. ak TRAYELERS SMASH SHEHIDAN -ll-6 The Kirklin Travelers kicked-off to Sheridan to start the game. Early in the first quarter Sheridan scored on an eight yard run by Long. After that the Travelcrs began to roll with vengcnce. Buntin made -1 touchdowns, Don Stevenson 1. and lake Martin 1. All the conversions were made except one. As the result of the game Kirklin continues to keep the water bucket. nk KIRKLIN STOPS XVESTFIELD 40-0 Kirklin gained their fifth win on the chilly night of October 15. The Trax elers capitalized on M1-stfield's first mistake when they recovered a Shamrock fumble on XYestfield's -15 yard linc. Ken Buntin then scored with .lake Martin making the extra point. liirklin led T to ll. ln the second quarter a fumble again cost the Sliamrocks a touchdown as Ken Buntin scampcrcd over from the 10 yard line. As the second half began the Travelers' line held very good enabling the back field to make long gains. Ken Buntin. lake Martin and Don Stevenson scored thc G-pointers during the third period. In the final quarter Ken Buntin returned a Mt-stfield punt 35 yards for a touchdown. .lake Martin ran around left end for the extra point and the score ended 40-0.
