The classes are not large. but are most interesting because they are com- posed of pupils who are eager to learn and willing to work. Kirklin High School has better laboratory equipment than the average school and is annually adding to that equipment. In the above picture the students of this physics class are no doubt interested in the experiment being performed in the laboratory under the supervision of Mr. Grice. Driver Training This course was inaugurated in the public schools for two purposes: 113 To train boys and girls in the mechanical procedures for driving: 123 Create and stimulate better sportsmanship when driving. The course consists of class room training and behind-the-wheel training. One credit is given for one semester? work. The car is furnished through the courtesy of P. Dorner's Sons of Frankfort. JUNIOR MAGAZINE SALES REPORT Mr. William Russel of the Collier Crowell Company visited the Juniors of Kirklin High School on Septem- ber 11, 1952. Mr. Russell discussed the coming magazine sale to be held from September 18th until Octo- ber 3rd. The junior class divided into two teams. Mary Ann Scott was the captain of Team One, and David Wil- liams was the captain of Team Two. The individual scoring honors went to Sue Jones, who sold 3105.00 worth. Anyone selling over 3100.00 was to receive a trophy. Anyone selling 5820.00 or more was to receive a certificate of merit. Team Number One made a sale of S277.70. Team Number Two made a sale of S410.30. The Junior Class wishes to thank the public for its co-operation in making the sale a success. SENIOR MAGAZINE SALES The Seniors solicited magazine subscriptions for the Curtis Publishing Company to increase our class fund. Our class was divided into two teams, Morris Kercheval and Milo Kincaid being captains. The total amount turned in was S806.95. Those receiving trophies for over 8100.00 were Marjorie Morton, Shirley Dennis, Margaret McClamroch and Bernard Stowers. Margaret McClamroch received a pen and pencil set for selling the most Ladies' Home Journal subscriptions. As a reward for selling over 8800.00 of magazines we received a turkey from the company. The turkey dinner was held on Tuesday, November 25th, at 6:30 p. m. There were fourteen Seniors, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Payne, and Mrs. George Valley present. The dinner was prepared by the girls under the di- rection of Mrs. Valley, the dishes were washed by the boys. The menu for the dinner was as follows: roast turkey, cranberry salad, baked beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, beets, pickles, carrots, celery, olives, coffee, milk, fruit salad, cake, pie and ice cream. No one went home hungry. Freshmen Initiation On Friday, September 18, there were quite a few queer-looking specimens roaming around the halls of Kirklin High School. At the beginning of the sixth period, we Sen- iors found out that they were a group of bewildered Freshmen. We decided they should be taught some of the ways and mysteries of upperclassmen. Don Douglass must have come to school with dirty feet because Donna Kay Camp- bell washed them in a new type of soap, containing three raw eggs. Then Donna Kay Miller, who was dressed in a grass skirt made from a feed sack, went fishing for a nickel in a soft pie. Later we were entertained by a square dance performed by Laura Mae Snell, Jimmy Joe Adair and Kenneth Maxwell. Sharon Cleveland had to propose to Alvin Kingsolver. Then Marcia Bogan went piggy-back riding on Jimmy Loveless while holding two eggs in her hand. For the last stunt. David Stevens was forced to eat a doctored pie. Altogether. the Seniors thought the Freshmen were very good sports. At the end of the program all of the Freshmen came out on the stage and sang the school song.
