BROWNSBURG KIRKLIIN TIE The Travelers journeyed to Brounsburg on Saturday September 29 to plat the onlx daylight game of the year The result of the game vxas a 00 tle The Travelers got off to a good start ulth Keith Buntln running the kick off back about '50 xards to the Brownsburg six ward line Brounsburg took over on douns The rest of the game was plated on about oxen terms ulth neither team hating much of '1 scoring, threat SHERIDAN LPSETS KIRKLIN 14 6 The Sheridan Blackhawks met the Kirklin Travelers on Friday October 5 on the Kirklin gtidiron The boys all got off to a good start and the game nas scoreless until the second quarter Then Sheridan got in gear and recovered a Kirklin fumble on the 10 yard line They vtent oser for a touchdoun and ran the extra point This made the score 7 0 in favor of Sheridan at the half time Kirklin seemed ln better spirits after the half and on the kick off they sustained possession of the ball and made a drive down the field and Blllltlfl went over for the touchdovxn Rinehart failed to make the point Sheridan scored again on a returned punt and ran the extra pomt leaving the score 146 Captain War burton Keith Buntln and John Qombs vtere intured in the game but not seriouslx KIRKLIN DEFEATS WESTFIELD 2 0 The Kirklin Travelers 1ourneyed to Westfield October 19 to win their first game of the season by 2 0 The second quarter of the game the Travelers received their two points bs 1 safety There was some disagreement on the tvto points so the referees consulted their book The rest of the game was plaved on an even level without much passing because of the cold weather KIRKLIN LOSES TO DELPHI 20 0 It had been raining most of the x eek and continued durlng the game Kirklin got a good start and nent to the Delphi 20 yard line before being stopped Then Delphi scored tvtice in the first half and once in the last to total 20 points to Kirklin s nothing There Kirklin ended another season of football Kirklin had 10 senioxs on the team Qept Sept Sept Sept Oc Oc Oc Oc Football 1952 5-Noblesville 12 Larmel 20 Brownsburg 26- rankfort 3-Sheridan 10-Delphi 17 Westfield 22-Lebanon 30 There Here Here There There There Here Here ' . . . . . , - ' Y V -1 'V 7 - vi I l V- I 1 lv I I T . KIRKLIN DEFEATED BY NOBLESVILLE 180 The K1rkl1n Travelers were defeated on thexr own gr1d1ron by Noblesvllle Frlday September 7th The K1rkl1n Travelers got off to a bad flrst half and settled down to busmess too late dropp1ng an 18 to 0 dec1 slon before about 1500 fans Noblesvllle drove to one touchdown 1n each of the flrst two perlods and then ran 1nto a tough K1rkl1n forward wall 1n a scoreless th1rd quarter The left footed k1CkS of Fred Rmehart and the defenslve play of Bob Hackett stopped the Noblesvllle offenslve throughout the perlod Klrklm moved to w1th1n 25 yards of a touchdown 1n the fourth quarter but a Kexth Buntm to Jon QUlCk pass was scooped up by a Noblesvllle defender to halt the drlve The v1s1t1ng Noblesvllle squad managed to galn for a flnal SIX polnter IH the fourth and flnal perlod and the scorlng ended there CARMEL NOSES OUT KIRKLIN 13 7 The Knrklm Travelers played the1r second game of the year w1th Carmel Tuesday September 11th Blg Bred Rmehart a 16 year old semor was thc mam defenslve and offenslve player Fred has plaved ball all of h1s school years and 1S now dolng a splend1d Job of playlng left halfback He plunged the Travelers to w1th1n a few feet of the l1ne then falled to make It over Carmel who has only been playlng ball for two years has a splendid team and used T formatlon At the half the game was scoreless Klrklm came back 1n the last half to make a touchdown w1th Rmehart dolng most of the carrymg of the ball Hackett a sen1or ran the extra pomt Leavlng the score 7 to 6 ln favor of Klrklln In the last 15 sec onds of the game Carmel who had been maklng headway down the fleld came back to make another touch down but falled to klCk the extra po1nt The Travelers were somewhat at a dlsadvantage 1n the game by not havlng thelr two regular backfleld men John Combs and Kelth Buntm They were mjured ln Frlday nlght s game KIRKLIN EDGED OUT BY JACKSON CENTRAL 13 7 The Travelers played the Jackson Central eleven on Central s grxdlron September 14th At half tlme the score was 7 to 0 1n favor of Central K1rkl1n came back pepped up after half tlme and Rmehart went over for a touchdown maklng the score 4 7 In the last s1x seconds of the game Central was dr1v1ng for a touchdown and fanled to make lt As a re sult of a penaltv Central was awarded another play and made the touchdown but falled to make the po1nt makmg the flnal score 13 7 FRANKFORT KIRKLIN TIE Frankfort s Nlghthawks and Klrklln s Travelers plaved to a 77 tle Frlday September 14 on the K1rkl1n grxdlron The Nlghthawks k1cked off to K1rklm to open the game and before they had possessron of the ball the Travelers had scored Klrkhn took possessxon of the k1ck on thelr 41 followmg a re k1ck when Frankfort was off slde A serles of runnmg plays by Bvron Hackett Buntm and Rmehart took them to the Nrghthawks 37 Buntm then slld through tackle and made a 37 yard touchdown run 1n the fxrst four mlnutes of the game Klrklm k1cked off and the Nlghthawks droye 67 yards before the Travelers recoy ered a fumble on thelr own enght yard l1ne They drove to the 14 before R1nehart punted to m1d fxeld Three completed passes and a combmatlon of runs put the Nlghthawks on the 10 yard l1ne w1th fourth down and ten to go Locke threw an lncomplete pass and the Travelers took over as the quarter ended F1ve plays later Rmehart attempted a punt from hls own 18 but Storm crashed through the K1rkl1n lme and blocked the k1ck Rlght end Jlm Baxley recovered on the Klrklm eleven Dupler and Davey DlCk9d up a httle over three to set Ballev s scor 1ng plunge Dupler added the extra po1nt by a l1ne plunge A penalty for 1nterference gave the Travelers the ball on the Nlghthawks 24 w1th t1me for one play The game ended w1th a thr1ll for the crowd as Charles Warburton K1rkl1n end mlssed a pass on the Frankfort goal l1ne 29 . . . 7 -. The Dr. W. C. Mount Football Award This trophy was presented to Kirklin High School by John Miller in memory of his uncle, the late Dr. W. C. Mount. Each year the name of the outstand- ing football player is placed on this trophy. The fol- lowing factors are considered in making the award: 1. Sportsmanship 2.
