Miss Davis was our class sponsor and the class officers were as follows: President, Karen Cooley, Vice-President, Frank Martin, Secretary, Sandy Ash, Treasurer, Steve Kohman. Steve Kohman and Frank Martin went out for basketball and baseball. Karen Cooley was on the Oriole Staff and Student Council. Sandy Ash and Karen Cooley were in band, glee club, and in pep club. Sandy was in the sextet and Karen was in the sextet and triple trio. Frank and Steve were in glee club. The District Music Contest was held in Salina on April 5 and 6. All of the freshmen attended. Frank and Steve were in the Boys' Glee Club, Sandy was in the Band, Girls' Glee Club, and sextet. Karen was in the band, Girls' Glee Club, sextet, and triple trio. ln the beginning of our sophomore year the same four members enrolled. Steve Kohman left our class later in the fall of the first semester. Mr. Tolle was our sponsor for this year. The class officers were elected as follows: President, Karen Cooley, Vice-President, Sandy Ash, Secretary-Treasurer, Frank Martin. Frank Martin went out for baseball. Sandy Ash and Karen Cooley were on the Oriole Staff and Student Council. Sandy was in Band and glee club and Karen was in band, glee club, and the sextet. Frank was in glee club. The Boys' Glee Club, Girls' Glee Club, band, and sextet entered in the contest. Starting in the fall of '58, our Junior year, were Sandy Ash, Karen Cooley, Frank Martin, and Stan Leavendusky. Stan left our class in the late fall of '58. Mrs. Hayden was our class sponsor and the class officers were as follows: President, Karen Cooley, Secretary, Sandy Ash, and Treasurer, Frank Martin. Frank was in the Boys' Glee Club and Karen and Sandy were in the Girls' Glee Club. All three sang in the Mixed Chorus. Sandy and Karen played in the County Band Festival at Gypsum and Frank, Karen, and Sandy sang at the County Vocal Festi- val at Solomon in November. Then they presented several musical numbers tor a Saline County women's meeting at the Presbyterian Church. The chorus ioined with singers from the other high schools in our league for the Vocal Festi- val at Solomon, where they sang under the direction of Dr. Robert Raylor of Emporia State College Mary Leister, Joy Reese, and Ann Shier presented a clarinet trio as our special number. The brass ensemble and the mixed chorus ioined with the grade school in the annual Christmas program. The mixed ensemble and the girls' glee club sang tor the Presbyterian Ladies' Aid and for several community meetings. The Band Festival was held at Gypsum High School and Don Nelson sang Old Man River for the Kipp number in the evening concert. Mr. Wayne Snodgrass of Clay Center was the guest con- ductor. We entered mixed chorus, girls' glee club, mixed ensemble, girls' sextette, and seven vocal solos in the District Music Festival in Salina, and the soloists and ensembles presented their num- bers at the following community meeting in Kipp. During the year the Pep Band played for every home game and the band brought the season to a close with a concert on the last day of school. The squad for this season consisted of only seven boys and the various times which injuries or sickness handicap- ped us. Several games were lost be- cause of the lack of substitute who were fouled or had become weary before the game was over. Every boy played hard and improved a little as the season progressed. All seven boys earned the letters.
