Iumor Class Huston' In the fall of 54 there were six members who enrolled in the freshman class at Kipp High School They were Etta Thomas Donna Henry Melvin Griggs Dwight Hanke Ierry Kohman and David Shier The second semester Don Nelson Joined our class At our class meeting we chose Mrs Bakalar as our sponsor The class officers elected were Donna President David Vice President and Etta Secretary Treasurer All the boys took part in baseball basketball Glee Club and mixed chorus The girls participated in Glee Club Pep Club and mixed chorus David Melvin Dwight Etta and Donna were members of the band The same seven returned for the sophomore year The class officers elected were Etta President David Vice President Donna Secretary Treasurer and Mr Hanke Sponsor Dalin Iantz was a member of our class for a short t1me until he moved away In November Don Nelson was admitted to the hospital for an operation and was unable to finish the school year At the beginning of school we initiated the freshmen and gave a party for them the sponsors the upperclassmen and the teachers All the boys were in baseball and basketball Melvin was team manager Dwight and Ierry made the first twelve on the basketball team Etta Donna Dwight David Don and Jerry were in mixed chorus and Glee octet Etta and Donna were in Pep Club and triple trio Donna was secretary treasurer for the Pep Club Etta took part in the one act play Etta was also a mem ber of Student Council and Annual Staff The class enrollment at the beginning of our Junior year was six They were David Shier Dwight Hanke Melvin Griggs Ierry Kohman Donna Henry and Etta Thomas Class officers elected were President Etta Thomas Vice President David Shier Secretary Treasurer Donna Henry This year Dwight David and Ierry made the first ten in basketball All the boys went out for baseball the first semester Dwight and Ierry played baseball the second semester Donna David and Etta were in the Iunior Senior Play Take it Easy All of the class participated in mixed chorus and Glee Club Dwight Donna, David Melvin and Etta were in band David and Ierry were in the boy s octet David was in the saxophone trio Donna and Etta were in the girls sextet and triple trio Donna and Etta were on the Oriole Staff Etta was president of the Pep Club and on Student Council On May 4 we honored the seniors at the Iunior Senior Banquet in the Holiday Inn Hotel in Salina Our theme was Oriental Paradise Later in the evening the grade school faculty underclassmen and other invited guests Joined us for the prom O I , . . . l ' Z I I l I I ' I I u : , A ' 2 ' , ' - ' 7 , - - I I I I I ' I I I I I I I ' I I I I I I , . : I .
