L 1 . . 1 1 b 1 1 , , O- 0 00. oo 0 V 'Arai-: '41 'r '-of his first xeax at tackle 'iou could always deperd on him to open a hole for the back field He was also a good defensive man Claude Cohoe tGuard Capt Electj Claude planed a nite game at guard and at the football banquet was elected captain for the next vear Claude is expected to make a finc captain and leader for the 1928 29 team Allen Griffin tGuardi Allen r better known on the football field as Big Pole He was one of the main Logs in the strong defense of the line This is Allen s last vear and his place will be hard to fill Harrv Alberding tCenterJ Harry was an outstanding plaver He played a wonderful defensive game as well as a good offensive He had a perfect pass from center and was mentioned as an all time K H S center This is Harry s last year for gre Gold and Black and it will take a long search to find another center as good as arry James Snead tFndJ This was Jim s first year in K H S and he made a fine showing He played a nice game at end Jim was fast and a good tackler and has another vear to play for K H S Earl Chew fEndl This was Earls first year with K H S Earl played in Idaho last year Earl was small but he was fast quick and had lots of nerve He was one of the hardest fighters on the team Earl is a senior Leonard Beason tEnd3 Leonard did not come out till late in the season but made up for lost time Leonard played a fine game at end and was alwavs the first man down under punts He has another year for the gold and black Lambert VanGundy tFull Backi Lambert was an outstanding plaver anu too much credit cannot be given him for his fine work Lambert was last a good pass snagger and was a power at hitting the line Whenever vards were needed Lambert would make them He was an excellent interference man and also backed up the line part of the time Rudolph Parker fQUdlt8l Backj Rudolph did a nice Job handling the pilot posr tion He was a good line smasher and also backed up the line He did the passing for the team and did an excellent Job of it which made him wry hard to stop Ralph was a good pas er and was also good on the receiving end Ralph played the safety position for the team Vtillie Sullixan tHalf Backj. Bill was fast and quick on the get-away He was good on long end runs and had a nice side step. Bill will be back with the team next year. John Ryburg tQuartci' Backi. Q Q oc. 00 oo: 1: : '1n'r'- SUMMARY OF THE SEASON The Krowa Chrefs started working on basketball rmmedratelv at the close of football season There were five letter men back with only one regular from last year s five The Chiefs opened the season before the holidays playing the fast Alva Okla team at Alva Krowa was defeated after rt had taken .3 extra periods to decide the game After the holidays the Chiefs got down to real hard work hrt their stride and won their next five games The Krowa schedule thrs year was one of the hardest a Krowa team has ever play ed meeting the best teams rn the country Considering thrs stiff schedule Krowa made an excellent showing wrnnrng 14 out of 22 games played Krowa finished thrrd rn the Harper Barber county league Sprrng Townshrp drstrrct champrons won the league and Anthonv with almost as good a team placed second These teams were two of the best in the countrv and they were the only teams to whom Krowa lost rn the league Krowa was entered rn two tournaments durrng the season the Invrtatron tour nament held at Medicine Lodge and the Drstrrct tournament at Pratt In the Medrcrne Lodge tournament there were 20 teams entered and Krowa placed thrrd, losrng to Sawyer Pratt county champrons by 4 pornts rn the Semr Finals Krowa placed one man on the all tournament team At the drstrrct tournament Krowa again lost out rn the semr finals thrs trme losrng to the strong Pratt team Class A drstrrct champrons WRITE UPS OF LETTFR MEN Rudolph Parker QGuard and Captj Rudolph made an excellent captain and team leader He was a fine guard and was a good floor man with a trrckey left hand drrb ble Rudolph had a good eye for the basket especially from the srde He was prcked as guard on the second Harper Barber county league team Leonard Beason QForward and Capt electj Leonard was a hard fighter on both defense and offense and was a nrce floor man and by no means slow Hrs best work was under the basket and rn recovering bounds Leonard wrll make a fine tap tam for next years team and we wrsh hrm the best of success Ralph VanGundy fFor-wardl Ralph was lrttle but mighty He was hrgh point man of the Krowa team for the season He has a fine eye for the basket from all angles of the court He rs fast and a hard man to cover Ralph recerved honorable mention rn the Harper-Barber county league. Arthur Henry iGuardj. Art was a main cog in the defense of the team. He also played a nice floor game. He had a good eye for the basket and was very good om long shots. Art was picked on the all-tournament team at the Medicine Lodge tourna- ment and was also picked on the first team of the Harper-Barber county league. Arvil Dixon fCenterl. Dickey jumped center for' the Kiowa five and got the tip for his team mates the greater part of the time. Arvil played a nice game on both offense and defense.He received honorable mention in the Harper-Barber county league. Victor Jefferies iGuardJ. Vic was better known as Spider. He was an excel- lent defensive guard and was good on medium long shots. Vic will be back at guard next year. Herbert Strother fForwardJ. Herb was a nice forward. He was tall and was a good fighter under' the basket. Herb has a nice side shot Jim Bunker 1Center7. Jim was a good center and played a nice floor game. He had a nice long shot. Jim will be back next year. Harold Newkirk fFor'wardJ. Hank was an excellent floor man and a fast for- ward. Hank will be back next year. There is much good material out and prospects for another good winning team are excellent. The team will enter five meets this year and they are the fastest meets In the country. The meets and dates are: Northwestern College invitation meet at Alva Okla. April 14' Annual Barber county meet at Medicine Lodge Kansas April 20' Anthony Invitation meet at Anthony Kansas April 27' Southwestern College Invita- gion meet at Winfield Kansas Mag. 4' Arkansas Valley Invitation meet at Wichita ay 11. Last years team entered these same five meets and made some excellent show- ings. They won the Barber County meet placed second at Alva and Wichita third at Anthony and fourth at Winfield. This years team should make an equal showing in these meets. And if they do, it will be an extellent record for the team. Kiowa High is very fortunate rn having such a fine track coach as J. A. Johnson who came to Kiowa last year. He showed his ability as a coach by producirg some excellent track men. His team s record was an excellent one. He is a former Missouri University man and star track performer.
