K Maley 14 Under the direction of Miss Joan Walkowiak the 1981 forensics team had an enioyable year. Garden City hosted the first invitational of the season. The next meet was held at LaCrosse, three of the six contestants made it to finals. The CPL forensics meet was held at Macksville on March 11. Shane, Lezfie, Darla, Marty Scheve, Janet and Loretta all received I ratings. Marty (extempore) and Shane (dramatic interpretation) both qualified for state competition that day. At the regional tournament in Great Bend, Shane qualified in two more events (informative speaking and poetry) along with Janet and Darla (improvised duet acting). The state contest was held at Ranson High School. Shane, Darla and Janet received I ratings and Marty received a II as did Shane for his second event. Our four state competitors and many fellow members will be returning next year for a strong and experienced team. This year's band at KHS was very active as they participated in the Octoberfest Parade at Hays, the Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, half time shows, one of which included the Ellinwood game, and the Concert put on for the grade school. Band members also played for the Christmas Parade held in downtown Kinsley. The KHS Pep Band provided music for the pep assemblies and cheered the teams onto the court. At State Contest, held in Dodge, the band received II, II, III. The Saxaphone Quartet brought home a II, and the Brass Quartet a II At League held in Great Bend, the band claimed II II, II, and the Saxaphone Quartet a II as did the Brass Quartet. BACK M Gales.
