Vocational Education Medical Careers The Medical Careers Club was added to the High School Curriculum again after a one year absence. Their activities included a field trip, speakers, a visit to the hospital, and individual work in a medical field that the students were considering as a career. In April, the club traveled to Halstead, where they visited the Health Museum, and also toured the hospital in Hutchinson. They visited the Edwards County Hospital Intensive Care Unit and EKG lab. Speakers included June Kopp and Tom Talley on Business Administration, and a representative of the U.S. Army on Medical Opportunities in the Armed Forces. First Row: C. Dykes, Nursing; T. Work Study is an experience of which 27 senior students participated in this year. This program allowed students to obtain vocational training while still attending High School. These students worked from one to two hours daily in a business in the Kinsley Cff-erle community. At these job sites, the students were given an opportunity to learn more about a job which they have been considering as a career. This year was very successful and the program continues to grow every year. 18

FHA The Future Homemakers of America started the school year off with Rush Day. The purpose of Rush Day was to inform anyone interested in FHA what it was all about. Two, of the many accomplishments of FHA was their participation in the Homecoming Parade and their making Christmas stockings for the faculty. Guest speakers were a highlight at the meetings. Mrs. Edward Domme demonstrated making artificial flowers and Mrs. Arthur Krumrey demonstrated quilling. As a money making project the girls served at the 4-H Banquet. One-Act Play Cast: R. Williams, L. Livengood, S. Har-nish, C. Josefiak, L. Metzler, P. Laudick, K. Hamish, V. Hamish. Forensics Under the direction of a new forensics coach, Mr. Richard Herman, the KHS forensics team enjoyed a very successful year. Its twenty-six member squad ended the year by bringing home thirteen state gold medals, four of which were 1+ratings. Highlighting the season was the one-act play Interview which received a second place trophy at Garden City, a first place state at Wichita and a 1+rating at state. Many individual events also received medals throughout the year. In addition, twenty members received medals for their hard work and achievements throughout the forensics season.
