WRESTLING Coach Sawyer came back this season from Pearl Miller to lead the Colt Wrestlers to victory. The team finished 7-3 and placed fifth in the State District Tournament. Individuals placing in the State Tournament were Bill Munies, fourth at 141; Len Mainiero, third at 101; Duane Kotsen, second at 158; and Kevin Woop captured first in the Heavyweight class. Despite the early practice hour, several outstanding freshmen came out for the team. The boy’s 4 x 100 free relay team of Jeff Whritenour, Glen Toth, Joe Morrissey, and John lx broke the school record held since 1978. Both the boy’s and girl’s swim teams finished with a conference record of 6-3, and an overall record of 8-5. The girls, under the expert guidance of Coach Gail Whritenour, captured first place in the Sacred Heart Cheering competition and placed a strong second in the Hudson County competition. Superficially, a dismal sea- son, but when viewed through the philos- ophy of the late Ado Bolles, it was a suc- cess. His philosophy, which present coach Kostenko has continued, emphasizes spir- it, integrity, and self esteem. In those terms the girls went undefeated.
