Kinnelon Choir 1. 2. People, Places, and Things A Sprinkling of Memory . . . And Friendship Those were the days, my friend. We thought They'd never end. This old refrain may well represent the sentiment of many of you going back through these pages at some future point in your lives. Memory may be perceived as a babbling brook of sensory, intellectual and emotional reflections, bouncing one hither and one yon on a journey into the past. This school year has left us with a vast reservoir of scintillating experiences. We have been awarded more National Merit Scholarships than ever before. We have received academic, cultural and athletic recognition. We have been to lunches and banquets and again, together, we have exhorted our friends to valiant efforts on the playing fields. We have even crowned a King and a Queen. These are a few of our shared experiences; albeit not always successful, yet always marked by a single sense of personal dedication, we developed a realization that we were learning. We have come to understand that learning is a natural outgrowth of purposeful activity and that school is a place for gathering experiences, making mistakes and learning; school is, in this sense, a practice field. But till now, I write in re the atmosphere which nurtures the essence. The essence of high school life is the fellowship of human beings based upon the commonality of love, truth and goodness. The friends we have made may travel different paths, but the friendships and their underlying experiences have made their indelible imprints; they are forever a part of us. We have spoken together and we have heard, because we have truly listened. We have grown together and I am certain we have developed a new faith and confidence in ourselves and in our school. In simplistic and irreducible terms, the abiding aim of human education is to assist each student toward a desired goal in a chosen lifestyle within the limits of prevalent circumstance. Through the cooperative efforts of students, parents and school we have achieved this goal. I pray that your self-image equals that which I hold of each and every one of you. Francis M.
