Text from Pages 1 - 176 of the 1978 volume:

Your days are short here. This is the last of your springs. And now, in the serenity and quiet of this lovely place, touch the depths of truth. Feel the hem. You will go away with old good friends. Don’t forget, when you leave, why you came. — Adlai Stevenson II Law ’26 i I Table Of Contents sentimental melody which not only symbolized “goodbye” for millions who were going off to World War II, but also became a permanent tie to memory. For us, that same hour is approaching, in very much the same way, with very much the same meaning. You are graduating and amid the complexity and turmoil of our times, a warm June evening, a family’s affection, and that magical touch of a last time together will blend indescribably for just a little while, and will become forever a part of that which will be described in our memory as a bygone halcyon era. For you, there is uniqueness, a special distinction, for you are, in all of time, the only Class of 1978. As you stand as a body on the football field, as your earlier years flood back, as you dream of what is yet to come, you will sense the sentimental finality of that moment together, yet the driving anticipation of what is still to be. I can only hope that each of you feels powerfully that priceless attachment to Kinnelon High School, to Alma Mater, and that each of you feels intensely, as the years gallop on, what Thomas Moore, the Irish poet, wrote in “The Light of Other Days”: “When I remember all The friends so linked together” For me, there is a brilliant four year collage of scintillating experiences and very cherished memories. I hope that your self image equals that which I hold of each and every one of you. I would like to thank you, the Class of ’78, for allowing me to share in your life. I pray that my faith in you and my love for you will reserve a very special place in your memory. “Work as though everything depends on you, and pray as though everything depends on God”. 5 Francis M. Mr. Habeeb, Senior Class Advisor President’s Message What is graduation? To some it may be an end. The end of all the happiness they experienced during their four years in Kinnelon High School. The cutting of ties made, the end of friendships. Some are pessimistic while graduating. Let’s all receive graduation optimistically. Looking forward to meeting new people, making friends, and looking up to our bright new futures. Graduation is being able to face our futures with the knowledge and joys we’ve acquired in our past. Karen Holub and Jenny Braun Right — Kate Finnerty IN MEMORY OF EDWARD DIGGLES His Mother’s Timothy His name was Edward, but to his mother her Timothy, A boy filled with love and sympathy. A boy — not quite like all others; Loved by his Dad, his sister and brothers. A boy respected by all his neighbors; A boy who hurried about delivering his papers. But — one day he did not return. All beautiful people responded; Gave of themselves for hours which led into days. His Mother is sure this is part of God’s plan. Perhaps — just to reach others who will not understand The great wonder of God’s goodness in this troubled land. Since he is gone, she will not complain; For in her heart she knows his going will not be in vain. Others will reach out for God’s loving hand; So we must believe — This is part of God’s plan.
