In Memoriam Robert Webster Borrell March 26, 1959 — December 4, 1974 Edward Lester Swedin November 2, 1958 — July 9. 1973 Philip Hollister Swett November 5, 1957-January 1973 We spake of many a vanished scene, Of what we once had thought and said, Of what had been, and might have been, And who was changed, and who was dead; And all that fills the hearts of friends, When first they feel, with secret pain, Their lives thenceforth have separate ends, And never can be one again. We surely did have our fair share of fun at the Powder Puff Football Game, the crowning of the Homecoming Queen, the Senior Brunch, the Senior Dinner and the Prom, but then, there was the gym situation at the beginning of the year. We had our warm and serious moments at the Thanksgiving Service, the Baccalaureate Service and at the Graduation Exercise, but then, there was the Grinch who stole the Gingerbread House from our lobby showcase. We worked together, we played together; we laughed together, we cried together; we won and lost together. We shared and we cared about each other. The friendships we made shall be indelibly etched in our minds and hearts. Let us think of time as no more or less than a revolving file from which we may retrieve friendships on desire. Each class, as it progresses and grows through the grade levels, develops its own unique personality. The class of ’77 will be remembered as involved and aware, as being possessed of intellectual balance, as being alert for opportunity and quick to grasp. You seem to have developed a wonderfully optimistic outlook which permits you to live for today with an eye for the future. A success is one who understands himself, is content in that knowledge, loves his fellow man and is ever concerned with the relationship between inner peace and social assimilation. To be a success, one must “Work as though everything depends on us, and pray as though everything depends on God.” I would like to thank you, the class of ’77, for allowing me to share in your life. I hope that my faith in you and my love for you will reserve a very special place in your memory. ’77. Francis M. Finnerty Principal 5 We have been careful that they that will read may have delight, and that they that are desirous to commit to memory might have ease, and that all into whose hands it comes might have profit. 2 Maccabees. Sloboda An Open Letter to the Members of the Senior Class My Dear friends: This has been our last year at Kinnelon High School; it has been a year of great expectations, of dreams and of hopes. This is the year when the class has pulled together and acted as one. It has been a time for the strengthening of old friendships and the making of new. It is in this tone I say to all of you: cherish that which you have experienced this year. You have just gone through one of the greatest experiences you shall ever have. Many of the ties you have made now shall continue for the rest of your life. There have been sad moments and these are the ones we tend to remember in the future; but then there have been so many more joyous ones. So, when you look back upon this year remember not the sadness but the happiness you shared and experienced with others. Therefore let me thank each and every member of the Senior Class of 1977 personally for the enrichment you have brought to the rest of us just by the giving of yourself, the greatest gift anyone may give. Hoping that joy and prosperity shall follow you in whatever endeavor you may pursue after graduation and wishing you well always. Your obedient servant, Joseph D. Sloboda, President, Senior Class Class of 1977 Time goes, you say? Ah no! Alas, time stays, we go. — Austin Dobson )RS 77 SENIORS 77 SENIORS 77 SENIOR NIORS 77 SENIORS 77 SENIORS 77 SEN S 77 SENIORS 77 SENIORS 77 SENIORS Greg Milbank, Class Vice-President and Treasurer Bill Powell peddling trinkets for the Class of ’77 Nancy Stone — Valedictorian BRUCE ADAMS 8 Highlands Drive, Kinnelon Cross Country 1, 2, 3, Captain 4. The school morale was bolstered during Spirit Week, and the Council also sponsored a few enjoyable dances. The beautification project continued, making the school grounds more attractive. Kicking off the activities was a Powder Puff football game played between the junior and senior girls and “cheered” on by the junior and senior boys. The following day was highlighted by an exciting game against Jefferson and a colorful half-time show, featuring floats designed under the theme “America”. The winning float, a beautifully constructed model of an All-American favorite — a Coke and hotdog, was the effort of Senior spirit. The climax of the halftime activities was the crowning of Maureen Annone — our beautiful Homecoming Queen. Powder puff cheerleader — Roberta Hartland. Acting as hosts to the German Exchange students early in the fall was also the responsibility of the club — a job they handled very well. A year of profitable bake sales, active meetings, and a trip to a restaurant to sample true French cuisine, spelled out a very exciting season for the French Club. These fifteen German students, along with their two teachers, were part of the recenlty-formed German Exchange Program. Spending five weeks with their American hosts, the group took an overnight trip to Pennsylvania Dutch country and toured other areas of interest. This program proved to be a great experience for everyone. It gave both Americans and Germans an opportunity to share their customs with one another. So successful was this program, that it will be continued next year with a new group of students going over to Germany. 115 N.H.S. The National Honor Society is an organization which recognizes students who excel in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Among the most popular, was a trip to see the highly-acclaimed musical “A Chorus Line”, a visit to nursing homes during Christmastime, and a Buffet Auction held in March. The show, entitled, “Dark of the Moon” was a somewhat brooding story with a touch of the supernatural. Unlike the customary straight acting found in many plays, “Dark of the Moon”, featured many colorful singing and dancing scenes, including the climatic revival which was both rousing and moving. Lead roles played by Bob Penola and Kathy Pezzillo. 121 ACTING Each year Mrs. Bennett’s acting class presents a play to the entire student body. This year the play “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do” was presented in January. The major roles were played by Bill Henry, Lynn Jameson, Steve Schwab, Beth Pellington, Linda Wigod, Diane Mickens, Greg Milband, and Tina Coppenrath.
