Kinnelon High School Kinnelon, N.J. Vol. 10 2 4 5 all things contain the seeds of their own completion all seeds contain the things of their own destruction — S. Z. Perkoff 7 9 INTRODUCTION 1-10 SENIORS 11-52 UNDERCLASSES 53-84 ACTIVITIES 85-116 SPORTS 117-134 ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY 135-154 It's not time to make a change, Just relax take it easy. You're still young, That's your fault. There's so much you have to know. I know that it's not easy To be calm When you've found something going on. But take your time, Think a lot. Why think of everything you've got. For you will still be here tomorrow, But your dreams may not. — Cat Stevens JUDY MARIE AMATI 9 Hartung Ave., Riverdale. C.I.E.4. KATHLEEN M. John Sacco, Treasurer. High school is, hopefully, a time for experimentation, for growth, for discovery. Each aspect of education provides myriad opportunities for those students who seek them. The Council, instead of following the established patterns of previous student councils, reached out in various areas with experimentation in open membership, dual offices, and un traditional student activities. Many felt that these experiments were wasteful; that the Student Council was obligated to spend more time in school and community affairs. Instead, one should consider this year as a period of a re-evaluation of previous ambitions. Too many over-emphasize the value of activity; of visual and tangible achievement, while few realize the fulfillment of discovery in failure or the challenge of creating a precedent, experiencing its successes and its frequent mistakes, evaluating each lesson and ultimately building upon each achievement. This is Growth. Senior Representatives 86 Mr. Badgley, Advisor. Junior Representatives. 87 Sophomore Representatives. The club has proven invaluable to some of K.H.S.'s drama productions by lending a hand with the necessary scenery. Art Club also works each year to present innovative decorations for the Christmas Concert. The Club's current activities include work on a mural for the Kinnelon Mall, a marionette presentation, and continued support to the Drama Club in the production of Plain and Fancy . It began a challenge put to a group of students to produce something tangible and whole from the many fragments of talents in our school. With this they aspired to show the community and school staff that the students of Kinnelon High are talented individuals. Today, it is in Feedback's production that we have found this and much more to be true. From the writing, to the art work, to the typing, to the printing, we have come to know with how much willingness, and with what great abundance others offer their talents. So we have set another goal, in hope that each person reading the pages of Feedback will come to the realization that although we are all very different there is much we have in common and much we have to share, and most of all, that the bodies passing us in these halls are very sensitive, as well as talented, human beings. Engaged in some creative decision making, are Diane Duvall, and Mrs. Helen Heeney, advisor. STAFF: SEATED; M. Tyler, B. Tyler, D. Tews, STANDING; K. Hoek, J. Lampe, D. Duvall, co-editor, K. Fehr, M. FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLUBS AND THE SOIREE INTERNATIONALE The Soiree was held twice this year, in November and May. It was sponsored by the Foreign Language Clubs, whose members donated their talents to prepare a buffet of typical French, German, and Spanish cuisine. Funds from this dinner are used to send a Kinnelon student abroad. This year, Craige Decker is traveling to Germany to stay with a family and go to school. Other activities of the Foreign Language Clubs include: bake sales. Candle sales, and Flea Market at the Kinnelon Mall. Mr. Ruiz is the advisor of the Spanish Club and the officers are: Dan Casper - President, Carolyn Seely - Vice-president, Sylvia Maxfield — Secretary, and Carolyn Preston — Treasurer. The officers of the French Club are Janet Rucker - President, George Babcock - Vice-president, Cathy Kilian — Secretary, and Stacy Van Alstyne - Treasurer. They are advised by Mrs. Sciano. The Band services the school by playing at football games and pep rallies, and they also give two concerts annually. MARCHING BAND On October 6, 1973 the Kinnelon Marching Band travelled to Philadelphia to participate in the University of Pennsylvania's Band Day half time show. Over fifty bands submitted applications to attend this event and Kinnelon was one of ten selected. Bands were selected on the basis of marching ability and musicianship. The band members are given an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with students from all over the country. The Kinnelon Band was one of two bands invited to participate in this event next fall. 103 COLOR GUARD This year's color guard spread their spirit and enthusiasm to the football fans during pre-game and half-time performances. Containing over 60 members, this year's club raised the curtain in November on Our Town . The imaginative Thornton Wilder play was received enthusiastically by all in attendance, and provided much dramatic knowledge to all the cast and crew members involved. Another highlight of the fall was their trip to New York to see A Streetcar Named Desire . The Drama Club also became a member of the International Thespian Society, an international organization honoring performers in the dramatic arts. Throughout the year the club has held various workshops, providing interested students with an understanding of the many areas of theatre production. Topics for these workshops have included make-up demonstrations, tips for try-outs and how to get on the good side of your director. The final project for this year was the presentation of a series of Children's Plays, written by Kinnelon students. This year's Drama Club officers were: Craig Decker, Pres., Dave Tews, V.P., Sara Jennison, Sec., and Doug Tews, Treas. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY This year, the National Honor Society has attempted to transcend the school environment, and involve itself in community and service projects. Members escorted youngsters trick-or-treating, a collection of canned goods was taken for the needy at Thanksgiving, Christmas gifts were collected for students in Spanish Harlem, correspondence was established with a patient in Greystone, and a Groundhog Contest was sponsored by the NHS. Through these activities, this year's members have shown that the NHS need not be thought of simply as an association of intellectuals, but as a group of involved students. NHS OFFICERS: L to R; S. Cooperative Industrial Education is a vocational educational program which offers an opportunity for on-the-job training and work experience to eligible high school seniors. These students have made plans to enter a specific occupation upon graduation. They attend regular classes in school during the morning, and report to a job assignment in business or industry for their work experience during the afternoon. Kinnelon High School students in the C.I.E. program are placed on jobs for wages. This employment, which provides work experience, added to in-school training, will help establish the student in an industrial or business career. SPECIAL GUEST STAR EXCHANGE STUDENT Lucia Maria Zaorob, who is from Sao Paulo, Brazil is spending her senior year here under the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. This program sends young people all over the free world to wherever Rotary exists, which includes 150 countries. The national program was started in the early 1960's. In this district during the past six years well over 200 students have been involved. There is a philosophy behind this program; it is to provide a better people-to people and nation-to-nation understanding by giving young people personal experiences with foreign cultures. This year, 30 students from our district will spend a year in the home of a family abroad. Another 30 will be hosted by American families in this area. Last year's exchange student to Kinnelon was Blasco Paulini, also from Brazil. This fall Sylvia Maxfield will be the first representative from KHS to encounter the exchange experience . She will spend her junior year in Argentina. 118 119 FOOTBALL The three burly backs; Alex Martello, 14 touch downs and 102 points. VARSITY SENIORS; FIRST ROW L to R; K. Mahiney, G. Winne. G.
