They also experimented with new techniques and media such as, casting, molding, and relating their art work to music. 55 The National Honor Society honors those students who exemplify outstanding qualities in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service. Student tutoring assist- ance was continued this year and the annual induction cere- mony was held in the spring. An exchange program was begun with groups of students visiting other schools in the area. Resulting comparisons of school programs and student life will present new ideas about different approaches to learning. 1. S. Hoogheem, 2. A. Fogelson, 3.). Whelan, 4. C. lensen, 5. A. It is proffered as a volume affording entertain- ment and literary value. As those of the staff well know, the production of a yearbook involves work, frustration and amusement. They found themselves often going bags and quipping don't forget your power pack. Being truly involved in an aspect of KHS will alone make '72 a year to remember — for only involvement can render experiences worth remembering. GK) Hitching Post — Who did what for this — K. Spirit was at a peak; the players eagerly awaited the season. Despite their efforts, though, they met with defeat — sometimes from mistakes but generally from inexperience of the team as a whole. The support and spirit of the student body was never quelled not even in the icy rain of the Mud Bowl . Starting Offense: Bistromowitz (End), Wright (T), Nelson (Gr), Stye (C)t Bakay (Gr), Merner (T), Allerman (End), Lampe (QB), Sander (HB), Donohue (HB), Irven (FB). Starting Defense: Nelson (End), Wright (T), Stye (LB), Gagliardi (T), Bistromowitz (End), Allerman (LB), Martello (LB), Bakay (LB), Linck (HB), Donohue (HB), Lampe (S). The team's tenacity and drive were exhibited during the two outstanding games — Franklin Butler. With many outstanding Juniors, such as Kurt Allerman (who was chosen defensive line- backer for the All State team) returning next year, the team for 72-73 looks promising. r w Byron Coley Liz Collins Charles Cook Don Corson ferry Court er Kevin Craige Lainie Crawford Diane Cueman Mike Curren Nelson DeBow Carolyn DeCarolis Bruce Decker David DeVoll Chiara DiAngelis Gloria Distasi Dwight Doig Peter Dolan Mike Donahue Michael Dorota Katie Ebersole Karl Elsasser Kay Ephrussi Diane Evans Ken Evans 77 To be a member of the 7977 cross country team was to ex- perience a lesson in life. Plagued by injuries and accom- panying frustrations, we fought through a somewhat disap- pointing, yet highly rewarding season. The '72 record stands at 16-2 in the Skyline Conference. Yet, this figure cannot indicate what that season really consisted of Certainly, it cannot truly express the work and effort expended by those on the team. It cannot reflect the anxiety and consternation Coach Brown went through how many films the drivers ed. classes saw This score barely suggests the reaction — the feelings — of those who came to the games the away ones, the boring, smear games, the games that generated so much enthusiasm that the KHS crowd was one — shouting we're number 1 Butler, Pequannock — those important games clinching the conference championship — they were such games. The circus was great: the superb ball-control of T.D. Mauro, the contributing rebounds and baskets of Kurt Allerman, the rebounds and antics of Brian Bistromowitz, the additional strength of Bill Preininger, and, the high scoring and re- bounds of Pete Polo. The rest of the Colt bench consisted of Lenny Yu, Rick Lampe, Ken Crieshaber. Nelson Debow, Rick Cillman and Gary Snel. Perhaps, better expressing this season were the shouts of the KHS mob : munch, munch, munch the ref forgot his lunch hang it up hang it up we're no. 7 we're no. 1. 7. 84 85 BASKET BALL Scott Nederfield Joyce Nolan Ed Norman Bruce Onoday Russ Opthof Sue O'Shea Nanci Pakosinski Tricia Par mete Barbara Parler Steve Paulson Randy Pearson Jodi Peck Valerie Peepas Frank Permit a Donna Perryman Linda Peterson David Powell Barbara Reid Albert Regeling Scott Reider Joan Reilly Mary Richards Gregg Ricks Kevin Riley Girl's Basketball Besides encountering the difficulty of switching to boy’s five- man basketball, the girls also faced a very demanding season. They played a full schedule of eighteen games from which they emerged 8-8. fifth in the conference. The rigorous prac- tise, that often broke into the sanctity of a weekend or vaca- tion, resulted in a good season. This season culminated many senior's fourth year of participation; the team will be losing a total of ten seniors this year. Under Mr. Fer- raiolo's direction the band made several bizarre innova- tions in KHS marching: running onto the field, jet air- planes flying away, and, oil der- ricks spewing out smoke and Mr. Ferraiolo. Besides these interesting changes, the con- cert band also experienced renovation: in addition to the concert band, a wind ensemble was initiated and the stage band and brass ensemble were perpetuated. The players con- tinually encountered more and more demanding material such as The Matador, The Plan- ets, and Holiday in Naples. With new uniforms for '73 in sight, the next year will un- doubtedly produce many more improvements in both sight and sound. 92 93 If you want a tape recorder, record player, or projector, look for a small, overcrowded room with a large man seated at his desk attempting to organ- ize the mess! The Audio Visual Aids Society, under the direction of Mr. Habeeb, reduced its squad this year, but doubled its aid to teachers. TOP: D. Meyer, K. Dunay, T. Yerkes (capt). BOTTOM: N. All of us, when we think back to our school days, remember teachers. Will our school children of today, years from now, recall fondly their slide projector, their tape recor- der, and their computer? Education is in trouble today. It will be rescued only by an army of men and women teachers who rec- ognize everyone as someone unique. Each pupil must learn that he and she are important to the world, because each is important to the teacher. Men and women who are true teachers know that the parent is the key to the child. One interested father is worth a hundred schoolmasters. To understand their pupils, true teachers spend precious time meeting parents of their pupils. A child comes to school to learn, to grow, and to love. A true teacher shows the way, and holds out a hand. Robert A. The suc- cess of each match, however, is dependent solely upon each indi- vidual effort. Preparation consists not only of strenuous workouts but also of exasperating dieting. Individual improvement was high eventhough the team record ended at 4 wins and 6 losses. The Colts placed third in the district championships with junior Gary Sisco and Alex Martello, sopho- more, participating in regional competition.
