We have worked hard-and played hard-together, always with but one and the same goal before us. Now that graduation is near, We are beginning to realize that we must soon go our separate ways, but, we shall not be alone, for the spirit and the feeling of Kinkaid will remain with each of us. Though we may meet many years from now, the bonds that hold us together here will remain. We have learned our lessons well, but above that, we have been taught our responsibilities-to our fellow man, to our country, to ourselves. All of us remember our first year, with our high school initiation, and the Freshman watermelon party on the front lawn-without watermelons. That was the year that Kinkaid had her first Christmas Party and first played eleven-man football. The annual birthday party was changed to '4Founder's Day, and the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas were introduced with uThe Pirates of Penzance. As Sophomores we went on Biology field trips together, and held our own sock hop, but even in our fun we could not fail to realize that the road was becoming steeper. Our football team beat everyone except St. ,lohn,s, and we put on a very excellent version of uThe Taming of the Shrew. ln our Junior year, we were able to convince the Falcons of the necessity of sandwiches at a newly-instituted usnack time. We made money for the Senior Prom by giving a Sadie Hawkins dance and publishing the school directory, and with gentle prodding from lVlr. Reed we began to think of college. Now, we are but a short distance from our goal. ln September we realized the fruits of our efforts in our handling of the Initiation Day procedureg in January We took our last mid-term exams as Kinkaidiansg in April we gave our last high school dance. We are struck by a sadness as we consider the fact that these are our last relays here at Kinkaid-now we are thinking of caps and gowns, ivy chains, and diplomas. As we prfeparf' to lf-ave Kinkaitl. We leave behind our mistakes and sor- rows, our faults and inrlr-4-ision, holding only those truest friendships and richest experiences that lilo in our school has given us. To the faculty, your unique qualities will seem to set you apart from all other classes. Your teachers, along with your families and friends, will chorus the belief that This class of '56 is after all the besl. We can expect big things from themf' Will you live up to this promise? Will we point with pride as each year's accom- plishments in college and life are recorded? The answer. of course. lies with you and in the degree to which you are able to live by the wisdom in Shakespeare's famous lines: HT01lrz'ne own self be lrue, And il must follow as the night the Jay, Thou canst no! ilzen be false I0 any nzanfl I ho e 'ou will Jonder these lines a ain and affain. And with them ask the dee er P 3 1 E as P question: How are we to know when we are being true to ourselves? To answer this is, after all. one of the reasons for going to college. The School hopes that you will carry with you a bigger self than you brought to us, and that. knowing yourself and being true to this knowledge. you will make the most of those talents which are yours. The Red Cross Council, sponsored by lVliss Paton. although there is no time allotted for scheduled meetings. has been very active. ln meetings held during lunch period and after school, this group has sponsored Christmas stockings for Hedgecroft Clinic and Easter Baskets for Wolfe Home. A Science group sponsored by Mr. Peach has made trips to Science Fairs at Waco, Galveston. and Galena Park: and. it has been very successful in its attempts to bring scientific repute to our school, ln the realm of the theater, the dramatically inclined among us have, under the verv capable direction of Mr. Boyd. staged two excellent productions this year, and under the leadership of Mr. Perkins a group of persons interested in Civil Defense have mapped out methods of evacuating the school in times of disaster. There are many other activities in which Kinkaigl people participate. They con- tribute to their community as well as to their school life and form background for future citizens of our country. vii, P 2 4 time 3 it E fa sv Fill riff If fr RED CRGSS COUNCIL Helen Carroll Patricia Compton Stephanie Burhriflge Betsy Boushall Julie Cashman John David Hagerman Ellen lVlott-Smith Marie Fay lVlarlene Cenitempo Kate Myer Pat Shannon Sandra Reed Chris Little Sain Davis Ann Breckenridge .M , Q' X. The first quarter was played entirely in the Gator end of the field, but the Falcons were stav- ed off time and again until Tommy Stapp cruised over for a T.D. Erwin's extra-point try fell short. The Gator defense played well as they rose to drive against the anxious Falcons. The second quarter got under way with two Gator drives that scored touchdowns and put the spirited Dickenson team ahead at the half. The running of Hershel Huges, aided by an ag- gressive line and good gang- tackling kept the Gators' lead until the third quarter. The Falcon attack came alive in the third and the Falcons scored twenty points. Richard Randell dove upon a fumbled ball in the Gator end-zone to start the spree rolling. John Butler charged over right guard for a touchdown. Then Johnny Webb steered himself to the re- ceiving end of a 40 yard pass from Travis Erwin and ran over for another Falcon T.D. Dickenson struck back in the second quarter when Atkins wound up a 72 yard Gator drive with a touchdown. The Falcons g 4 l' ff raw: HERE.
