We Wish to thank the student body who by their loyalty and coopera- tion have rnade it possible for us to continue this tradition. May the book always be a pleas- ant reminder of the class of 1954. The Staff and the Sponsor will remember . . . The general confusion of the unfinished tasks. The tortuous assignments of pictures and writing. The arguments concerning the plans of the book. And the satisfaction of the finished product. The Sponsor offers congratulations . . . To Elizabeth who remained calm in spite of deadlines. To Sylvia who proved to be the year's money getterf' To Dickie and jack for a real sports section. E943 Eacfvj To Zanetta for excellent work on tiresome picture arrangements. And finally to Tom whose constant objections made possible an annual of which we are proud. The Staff is grateful . . . To others who worked with us, made suggestions, and added criticism. They have contributed to our annual, which we think is a job well done. S 1 A Editor .,.....,........ fizmumfs Elizabeth Hansen Bzuifzefy Marzagef' ...,. When the Board of Directors announced the moving of the school, it came as a surprise to almost everyoneg but we soon realized that it was the inevitable. Yes, X marks the spot and we hope that future Kinkaid students will enjoy the ' new and spacious carnpus. CARL E. Treafurer .. cdtazg We entered high school in 1950 as scared freshmen: but after Initiation Day when we came dressed as pickaninnies we felt more at home. Everyone had their fill at our Freshman Barbecue at Jimmy Greenwo0d's. At the end of our freshman year we gave the last performance at Commencement which was a dock scene in New Orleans. All of us were eager to come back the next fall to find out how the school would be under the direction of Mr. Cooper and Mr. Reed. That year we and the Seniors gave a Sock Hop in the Little Gym. During vaca- tion, before our junior year, about ten of us attended summer school for six weeks in order to become full pledged members of the class of 1954. As juniors we sold more cokes at football games and more candy during lunch than any previous class. The Bop Hop was the crazy jazzed up dance that we sponsored that year. After an industrious year of money raising, we gave the school a new Citizenship Cup and a record player, as well as giv- ing the Seniors an unforgettable prom at the Briar Club. Three weeks after we started, the next year, we finally became the initiators of the new students and freshmen who came dressed as little children. In October each Senior girl adopted three little sisters from the freshman class and took them on a picnic where everyone was stuffed. After mid-year exams came Senior Rings, College Boards, Senior Day, and finally the caps and gowns. We may not have done all we should like to have done, but we have all been well prepared for the future during a period when we have had many happy times. Reichle passed to Burgdorff for two touchdowns early in the first quarter, the first for 75 yards on the second play of the game. It was evident that the Falcons were on their way to victory. Reichle then raced 35 and 40 yards for two additional TDs. Kinkaid turned loose three hard KINKAID ROARS Sept. 18-With Reichle at the throttle and Elliott, Burg- dorff, and Stapp pouring on the coal, the Falcons moved on to a 62-O win. Reichle put on one of the greatest one man performances ever witnessed in the Old Rice Stadium as he raced for five touchdowns. With French, Howard, and Davis ripping holes in the lighter Oglesby line, a quartet of Falcon backs romped almost at will. It was charging backs, each scoring a touchdown. Mount rode the backs of Howard and Kelley to score on successive charges in the second quarter, Coleman intercepted a pass tipped into the air by Orr and ran 25 yards to score, and john Butler got the final tally of the night as he raced 20 yards to paydirt late in the fourth quarter. PAST OGELSBY 62,-0 Elliott who almost stole the show with the game's longest run of 97 yards on a reverse as he got key blocks by Brian. Orr, and Burgdorff. Burgdorff and Stapp made the game's other tallies. Stapp after having two TDs called back, finally made one that counted as he slanted off his right tackle and reversed his field to go 40 yards untouched for the score. , 79, 4,,.,.,y,,,, Q,af.,Q 3 I W, . f-W fu f V fl M , ai.. . re Ni 1 ,. Late in the first quarter Reichle com- pleted successive passes to Elliott and Burgdorff with the one to Bob good for a second TD. Reichle and Coleman took turns at cracking the stiff defense with Reichle break- ing through for 42 yards and the score. The extra point was good and the score was 20-0 at the half. With Reichle seeing limited action, the Falcon scoring machine stalled although it constantly threatened in the second half. Stapp and Elliott alternated in the tailback slot and time after time led the Falcons inside Waller's 15 only to stall because of a penalty or fumble. KINKAID PICKS ORCHARD 53-0 Oct. 2-Striking like lightning in the early seconds of the game, the Falcons scored on Reichle's 65 yard touch- down pass to Burgdorff, Reichle got the second and third touchdowns on runs of 28 and 15 yards. Elliott raced 45 yards on a reverse to score. With Orchard bunching their defenses to stop the vicious ground attack, Reichle took to the air and found Orr, the hard hitting blocking back for 23 yards and a score. Q . -- KINKAID SPANKS SPARTANS 27-O Oct. 9-The St. Stephens Spartans became the fifth straight victim of the' Falcons. On the third play after a fumble re- covery Orr raced off-tackle for 26 yards for the first touch- down. In the second quarter Reichle took a pitchout from Orr, circled his left end and ran untouched for a marker. Again in the third quarter the Falcons moved 85 yards to score with Reichle going the last 10. Runs by Elliott and Cronin ate up most of the yardage in the drive. Reichle broke loose for the final tally on a 52-yard run. Although the Spartans never scored, they constantly threatened. Stout goal line stands by the Falcons' line, led by French, How- ard, Kelley, Davis and Robinson, repulsed the Spartans three times inside the Kinkaid five yard line. KINKAID PLASTERS DANBURY 38-0 Oct. 16-Led by Reichle, Coleman and Orr, the Falcons took number six at the expense of Danbury. In the first quarter, Reichle, behind Orr's blocking, shook loose for 47 yards and TD number one. Touchdown number two resulted from Reichle's pass to Burgdorff, which was good for 53 yards. The third touchdown was set up on runs by Orr and Elliott and made by Reichle on a 15 yarder. Charley Brown received Reichle's pass for the next score. Davis, Kelley and Howard paved the way for Reichle's 26-yard touchdown run to make it 32-O when the half ended. The Falcons were held scoreless in the second half except for Reichle's 49-yard scamper to pay dirt. ..1,3 7 4-If 'Q -D 3- - , 1 fi ' , . Both teams, keyed to a high pitch, fought on even terms through- out the first quarter. Saint johns recovered a fumble early in the second-quarter and quickly moved to the one. The game was highlighted by the return to action of injured tri-captain George Clarabut. TO SAINT JOHNS 20-6 end to go for 15 yards and a TD. In the third quarter Reichle hit on successive passes to Burgdorff and Elliott and then bootlegged it for a score. Late in the fourth quarter, trailing by 15-6, Kinkaid saw its last hope go flickering away on an intercepted pass. Gordon put the game on ice with a 51-yard touchdown dash on the next play. But there were other highlights toog for instance, the opening game of the year which produced the initial victory, a twenty one point conquest of Angelton. From here the Falcons rolled to their first victory over a city public high school, San Jacinto, by a 47-34 score. The Falcons continued to win and marked up eleven victories in their first thirteen games. This included a twenty point conquest over three times State Catholic Cham- pion, St. Thomas. This string also included the winning of two first place trophies at the Spring and Van Vleck Tournaments. The next highlight was a three day venture into Dallas where victories oveg Saint Marks and Buckner Home were recorded. After returning from Dallas, the Falcons fell into a mild mid season slump, but eventually pulled out of it to register eight wins in their last ten games. One of the defeats was avenged two nights later as Klein fell to the Falcons' home court advantage by an eighteen point margin. This game was an important win for the Falcons for two reasons: first, it was a going. away present for Coach Horney and a welcoming present for Coach Hart, and, second, it broke a 23 game winning streak for Klein. The Annual staff still considers the thrilling 54-45 win over Saint john's in the finals of the A.T.P.S. Tour- nament and the fine 22-8 season record as the top highlights of a very successful bas- ketball season. , .
