She is very studious and makes Virgil a specialty as well as some of the other boys. She is one of our hrightest and most genial members. Almost any time at recess her clear musical laugh may be heard ringing out from her work as she studiously pores over her Geometry lesson. Her life is noble, pure and sweet, For shels a girl thatls hard to beat. This maiden is loved wherever she goes, For after her only goodness she sows. Oh Kincaid, loveliest village of the plain, Where health and plenty cheers the laboring swain. Dear place of innocence and ease, Place of my youth with sports that please. How often have I wandered on thy Green, Where simple happiness endeared each scene. Sourrounded there by friendly neighboring hills, A village quaint with happy voices filled. And in this village a school did stand, A dear old building of brick and sand. In nineteen hundred seven there came, A band of workers to this house of fame. They came for truth, for visions true, Seasoned with fun as youth will do. They came they went as if to please, A higher power-the Great Unease. And now but four are left to tell, Of those once called by the old school bell. In that class of nineteen hundred eight, There were nineteen as welll relate. Junior, Zonai,1Emma and Lily, high school begin, With Beulah Shockey, Nellie Hinger, Mary Wise and Wynn Ralph Pinneo, Scott Reiber, Frank Robb and Stella Lent, Clara Anthony and Dessie Merrifield, too, in this class went. L6ona,Royse, Ruby and Alpha Davis, sisters two, With Igeslie Harkness and Moree Lucas complete the crew. T4 E.'Osborne was our Superintendent dear, As along with his wisdom he scattered his cheer. And Miss Covalt assisted in guiding our band, Asxweienteigedrour work so happy and grand. Butrwhen September called us together again, Some were missing, some added and we numbered ten. Leona, Ralph, Nellie, and Stella Lent, Were capfturedwhen Cupid his arrow sent. Right into the heart and there to stay, Others left going their separate way. Beulah, Ruby, Alpha, Leslie and Moree, Mary, Frank, Scott, Clare and Dessie. All leave this class for various climes, Making a change in rhymes and times. Mr. Osborne and Miss Covalt left us here. With Mr. Shearer and Miss Newlon in Sophomore year In this grade seven there would have been, But Frank and Ruth Mc and Corral made ten. We thus cling together enjoying our work, While some days we study and same days we shirk. Until May time call us away from these joys, And scatter for summer us girls and boys. September soon stopped us from rambling more, And gladly we gathered again as of yore. But Corral and Beulah and Mary and Moree, Left our bright class so full of glee. Leaving Junior, Lillian, Frank, Zona and Ruth, And Em ma alone in their search for truth. Mr. MCGuffey assisted by Woods. I-Iattie E., Guided this class quite cheerfully. Till again came the May time and lessons all said, In Dame Nature's pastures we delightfully fed. But as into the past the summertime flew, Frank and Ruth McAdam to Moran withdrew. Leaving the class composed of but four, To enter as Seniors the High School door. With Prof. McGuffey and Miss Esther Dunn, Our work was planned and well begun. So we entered, we studied, we spent many hours, In search of wisdom midst thorns and flowers. We gathered some bitter along with the sweet, As ever in life with reverses we meet. So now as we're leaving the shrine of our youth, May we each be guided by wisdom and truth. And our dear Alma Mater kind and true, VVelll bid God's speed the whole year thru. - 1' Sept. 0 Sept 6 Sept 12 Sept 21 Sept 24 Sept 30 Oct. 7. Oct. 11. Oct 20. Oct. 24. Oct. 25, Nov. o. Nov 8. A small party, small in numbers, but great in spirit of which the Professor and wife, Misses Goller, Dunn and Hummiston, Roland Barnes, Leiuis VVilson and the Seniors were the numbers, met at the home of Miss Zona Steward, in honor of the lllth anniversary Dec. 21. Flinch and checkers, sprinkled with music was par- ticapated in, after which, a light repast consisting of Zona's birth- day cake, an elegant fruit cake and a delicious fruit salad was served with apples as a top-oii. Then the guests having reported a lovely time, departed for home along towards the wee small hours of the night. The German class was treated by the Prof. and his Frau to oranges, grapes and candy, at their home during which Mrs. Mac entertained by telling of old Bels Niche, who visits the little Dutch boys and girls along with the Kris Kind and how they lovingly and joyfully await for both at every Christmas. The class play came and the cast of characters was picked out. Olympians delivered their second program, doing more credit to the society than their first, and was appreciated by several visi- tors as well as the grammar room. Decorations of cedar and beautiful pink and red flowers adorned the walls, and the Lyceums enjoyed a slam as well as a comp which offset the slam con- siderably. The Bad Job was rendered by efficient actors. The High School met at Professor's house in a watch party. Games of Jackstones, Somerset, and Chanticler were indulged in after which the watchers went to different bells in town and at the appointed time the town echoed with the knell of the old Year and tl en reechoed with the welcoming chimes of the new. liuch joyful heart Cjoyful after a week's vacationl sorrowfully, fsorry because school reopenedl wends its crooked path towards the ban of its happiness, the dear old school, and makes a resolu- tion to make better grades in future, never trouble dear teacher much and to always be cheerful. Everything starts out lovely. The New Year seems to be giving us a good dose of Grip and cold epidemics. Everyone in school either has a frog or a vacant seat. Mrs, Bn-iggsw and Co.. met at the Prof's for rehearsal. The basketball team drove over to Blue Mound on this night, with the fell purpose of defeating the Blue Mound boys. After arriv- ing. bills were seen posted which stated that the Mildred boys would play the winners. Knowing this, and not wishing to deprive the ll. M, team of what they considered their due, our boys gave them the game at 32 to 19, then the second game was watched in which Mildred was beaten 18 to 3. The boys came home happier in the thought that they could have wiped Mildred all up, and wishing they had not let Blue Mound off so easily.
