DILIGENTLY TRAINING THROUGH NUMEROUS GRUELING EXERCISES KINKAIDS STRIKE TEAM WAS ALWAYS READY TO FULFILL MISSION REQUIREMENTS, SETTING THE EXAMPLE FOR THE BATTLE GROUP WITH THEIR EXPERTISE. WHEN NOT TENDING TO THE MIGHTY TOMAHAWKS, MEMBERS OF CM DIVISION COULD BE FOUND BOARDING FOREIGN VESSELS AS PART OF KINKAIDS VBSS TEAM, HELPING WITH VARIOUS COMMAND FUNCTIONS OR WARMING STEEL BEACH. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT KINKAID S Engineering Department team is composed of 77 Officers and Enlisted Personnel organized into four separate divisions. These divisions are manned by Enginemen. Electricians. Gas Turbine Specialists ( Mechanical and Electrical ), Damage Controlmen. Hull Technicians, and Machinery Repairmen. All of these highly trained professionals work together to keep the propellers turning, the lights burning, the toilets flushing, the fresh water flowing . and numerous other services functioning. They spend their time in the lowest recesses of the ship, making repairs to equipment and standing watch over their machinery, allowing KINKAID to meet all of her operational commitments. From the senior supervisors to the junior personnel, this special breed of sailor prides themselves on their technical know-how and can-do spirit. When not engaged in standing watch or repairing equipment, the engineers spend their time enhancing their professionalism through training on propulsion plant casualty control procedures and fire fighting damage control techniques. Always ready to anwer all bells, the Engineering Department upholds the high standards of pride and professionalism that are the trademarks of USS KINKAID. LT KNUTSEN CHIEF ENGINEER LT KEITH A KNUTSEN . THE CHIEF ENGINEER. IS ORIGINALLY FROM CLINTON. IOWA. HE GRADUATED FROM THE UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY IN 1990 WITH A DEGREE IN GENERAL ENGINEERING. FROM 1990-1994 HE WAS STATIONED ABOARD THE USS FLETCHER AND SEVED AS THE AUXO. MPA. CHENG. AND NAVIGATOR. FROM 199. ' i-1996 HE SERVED AS THE CHIEF ENGINEER IN GL-47 GAS TURBINE HOT PLANT. GREAT LAKES. IL PRIOR TO REPORTING ABOARD KINKAID AS THE CHENG. HE WAS THE DIRECTOR U.S. NAVAL GUNNERY SCHOOLS AT GREAT LAKES. IL. HIS INTERESTS INCLUDE DRINKING BEER. RIDING MOTORCYCLES. WATER SKIING. GOLFING. AND SHOOTING. 26
