COMBAT SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT The Combat Systems Department is charged with the maintenance and employment of KINKAID ' S weapons systems. Sonar Technicians (STG ' s). Torpedo Men (TM ' s), Fire Control Men (FC s), Electronics Technicians (ET s). Data Specialists (DS ' s) and Gunners Mates (GM s) make up the highly professional Combat Systems Team. From Anti-air to Anti-Submarine. the Combat Systems Department has the capability to fight the ship with a wide range of weapons from Tomahawks to Torpedoes. In the Arabian Gulf and throughout the Pacific Ocean. Combat Systems is the eyes, ears, and muscle of Kinkaid ' s fighting learn. LT FEYEDELEM COMBAT SYSTEMS OFFICER LT Feyedelem graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear engineering in May. 1989. After receiving his commission, he completed the Naval Nuclear Power training pipeline in Orlando. FL and Idaho Falls. ID. Following Surface Warfare Officer ' s School. LT Feyedelem reported to USS CALIFORNIA (CGN 36) in October 1990 where he served as Repair Division Officer and Damage Control Assistant. During a tour at the Naval Postgraduate School, he earned a Master ' s of Science degree in mechanical engineering. Following Department Head School in Newport. Rl . LT Feyedelem reported to USS KINKAID (DD 965) as the Combat Systems Officer. LT Feyedelem will detach in March 1998 and transfer to USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) where he will be assigned as Main Propulsion Assistant. He is married to the former Melissa Schroer of Fridley. TORPEDOES, AND TORPEDO COUNTER- MEASURES. SONAR TECHNICIANS AND TORPEDOMEN WORK TOEGETHER TO ENSURE TOTAL DEFENSE AGAINST ENEMY SUBMARINES. SONAR TECHS ARE THE EXPERTS ON OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SONAR SYSTEMS. AS WELL AS MONITORING SONOBOUYS DEPLOYED BY THE LAMPS MKIII HELICOPTER. THEY ALSO OPERATE UNDERWATER COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS AND THE FATHOMETER. THE TORPEDOMEN OPERATE AND MAINTAIN THE SURFACE VESSEL TORPEDO TUBES AND THE MK 46 TORPEDOES. THE UNDERWATER FIRE CONTROL SYSTEM PROVIDES THE NECESSARY INTERFACE BETWEEN SONAR TECHS AND TORPEDOMEN ENABLING CA DIVISION TO COMBAT ANY SUB-SURFACE THREAT. 16
