HENRY L. ROCKWELL As one of the four original menv hers of the Class of 1938, “Hank Rockwell has been an outstanding citi zen of the school. “Rock was a prominent member of the York Club in athletics as well as in other extra'curric' ular activities. After serving as part' time President of the Fifth Grade, Henry took “shop . In the Eighth Grade he became enthusiastic over sh(X)ting. A continual visitor at the “range . Hank soon became a “crack shot and was chosen Captain of the Rifle Team during his Senior year. He produced an extraordinary rec' ord in athletics, reporting for Second Team F x tball practice (now Inter' mediate group) in the Sixth Grade, and holding a position on the team throughout the following year. In the Eighth Grade, Rock joined the ranks of the First F(x)tball Squad under Jay Merriman. As a member of the Team during the following year (Freshman), he won his letter and a gold football for an undefeated season. Before leaving the ranks of the Junior School, Rockwell carried off the Heavyweight Boxing Champion' ship of the York Club. He also appeared in the Eighth Grade with a number of football stalwarts in a Senior Dramatic Club performance. Rock is reported to have made a very excellent chorus girl. Rockwell joined the circulation staff of the }{ews in the Fifth Form and has held the position of Manager this year. Besides being Captain of the Rifle Team, he is Reference Library Monitor, a cheer leader, Senior Class Monitor, and a member of the Dramatic Club. For four years Henry has sung in the schcx l Choir. Some of those fellows at the Ice Carnival may not forget the incident when a certain blonde made an escape from the Romeos who had their eyes on a light'haired girl, but Rocky man' aged to fool them at the disgust of a number of her admirers. Next year he hopes to enter Penn and should have little trouble making gcxxJ there. 29

ROBERT R. PRENTIS “Boh” entered the class in the Seventh Grade. He joined the York Club and for his two years in the Junior School, he played football, basketball, and baseball for the White Rose. On entering the Senior School, Bob par ticipated in football and baseball for the Intermediate group. In the Fourth Form he again returned to football and baseball under Bill McDonald and added basketball to this list. In the Junior Class Bob decided that playing football called for too much energy, when you could stay on the right side of the athletic department by becoming a manager, so he took the job of manage ing the Intermediate Football Team. That winter Bob, with a supreme amount of effort joined the First Basket' ball Squad, and in the spring he had a little vacation doing nothing until the coaches caught up with him. To get back to more deserving accomplishments, Bob became a mem' ber of the Editorial Board of the Wyvern and also of the Publicity Board. This year saw his managing abilities further developed: he became man' ager of the First Football Team, and, during the winter, of the First Bas' ketball Squad. He has continued his work on the Wyvern and done the majority of the work for the Publicity Board. Bob's main interest is swimming and in the summer he is always some' where near the water. Besides swimming his favorite hobby is collecting records of swing bands. He has quite a number of these studies in boiler' making and general turmoil which he turns loose on the neighbors with a frequency which may not be appreciated although there have been no complaints at the present writing. Next year Bob is planning to go South to college, since, he says, that it's entirely tex) cold to study up in the North. The University of Virginia is his choice, and we all hope it treats him well. 28

SAMUEL L. ROOT. JR. “Sam entered Kingswood in the Third Form and immediately distin' uished himself by his brilliant scholastic ability. In his first year he played tennis, but apart from that paid little attention to athletics. Sam was made a reporter on the l cws, at which he did a fine job. He was at the top of his class throughout the year, for which he was awarded the Dux Prize. In the Fall of the following year he joined t h e First Soccer Squad, of which he was a member for the next two years. Sam proved to be a diligent worker, but just failed to make a regU' lar berth on the First Team. In the winter he took to shooting and although not an ardent attender, showed extraordinary accuracy. He retained his scholastic standing and was awarded the Dux Prize as well as prizes in mathematics and Latin. In his Fifth Form year he won the Dux Prize and also the much coveted Korper Scholarship. In his Senior year Sam was promoted to Assistant Editor of the T cws. He was a regular player on the Sixth Form Basketball Team in the Inter class Series. For exercise this Spring he engaged in tennis and track. He joined the Math Club and was appointed Monitor in the Library, where he did his best to preserve order. He has attained the remarkable record of being on the Honor Roll every month since he entered. Out of school he occupies himself by playing tennis, skiing, and bowling. Sam was a member of the group which entered the statewide Latin Con' test this spring. The examinations were given in New Haven. He also carried an extremely heavy program of “Honors examinations for special prizes in June. Next fall he plans to go to WiL liams, where he will continue his splen' did record. 30
