CHARLES S. HASTINGS “Red entered the sch x)l in the fall of '34, and ever since has been dis' tinguished by his beaming smile and “sunny disposition. Throughout his four years at Kingswood his “brilliant questions have astounded the members of the Faculty as well as his class' mates. In the fall of his freshman year “Red” went out for soccer, and after playing on the Second Team for the first year, he was recognized as good material for the following year. The Winter Term brought good ice and the “Carrot Top was to be found every afternoon on the hockey rink. When the baseballs were flying fast and far, “Spence was right in the midst of the Intermediate Squad. The Fourth Form year found “Red with regular positions on the Wyvern Board and the First Soccer Team. In the Winter he was again drawn to hockey, and he continued with Second Team baseball in the spring. “Red's most outstanding achievement in his Fifth Form year was his work on the “Comments of the Wyvern. Another of his claims was his ability to dribble a soccer ball round his teammates. On account of lack of ice that winter, Red had to “do his stuff on the meadows playing touch ftxitball with the downcast hockey squad. In his Senior year Spence captained the Soccer Team through one of the most successful seasons that the school has ever had. He was one of the assistant editors of the Wyvern and a letterman on the Hockey Team. He also joined the Choir in his last year. Besides being interested in golf. Red is reputed to be the only fisherman in the school who uses worms and catches fish at the same time. This fall Red is going to enter Yale, and the school will be sorry to see him go. More power to you, Red. 20

THEODORE A. GUEST “Ted” joined our ranks in the Third Form, coming to us from East Hart' ford. He joined the Rille Club the first year and has been shooting ever since, although never quite well enough to gain a position on the Rifle Squad. Ted likes to make puns, and for four years he has been outstanding for his extremely “witty remarks. Ted’s athletic achievements include tennis in the spring and fall, and Club Basketball in the winter during his first two years. In his junior year he became a member of the Second Soccer Team, and through this experience he obtained a position on the Reserve Squad of die First Soccer Team this year. The Wyvern was lucky enough to secure Guestie as one of its literary editors while in his third year at Kingswood. The next year Ted was unanimously elected EditoHn-Chief of the literary magazine, and be' cause of his excellent work, the Wyvern obtained a second place in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association contest during the winter. Ted was also one of the editors of this year's Senior Class Book. Although Ted is not a man for society and the members of the fairer sex, he does enjoy companionship with the fellow'members of his class. His pet diversion is cars, and the slightest mention of “pick-up is sufficient to start him going. Ted has maintained a fairly consistent place on the Honor Roll, and because of his unusual literary abilities, has been outstanding as a writer of stories, editorials, and what-not. He was a representative of Kingswood’s Vergil class at the state Latin contest held recently at New Haven. Ted has been busy this spring try- ing to improve his golf game by losing balls in gopher holes in the lower meadow. He will continue his studies next year at Princeton. 19

DONALD W. HESELTINE “Don” has been an established member of our class since he entered four years ago. The impression at once created by his curly locks and good looks suffered nothing from his record in athletics and scholarship. In the fall of his Third Form year he played tennis, but in the following year he joined the soccer squad to gain a position as substitute halfback. Then for the past two seasons he has played regularly, noted for his consistent drive, and winning his minor “K” twice. Hockey has always been Don's choice for a winter sport, and he has taken many a hard knock on the rink in the past four winters. This last year he was a member of the first forward line and was awarded a letter in hockey. Tennis has kept “Hessy” busy during the spring afternoons, and in this game he has worked his way gradually upward, until last year he was made Assistant Manager of the team, and this spring he was playermian' ager, doing a swell job at both of his duties. Don is not just an athlete, for at all times he has held honor grades, and has made the Honor Roll quite often. Then, t(X), he was second in the class for several years. At the end of his junior year he was awarded the Harvard Prize as the member of the class most likely to succeed, and he received “Honorable Mention” in mathematics and engineering draw' ing. Don was made a Prefect last fall and has carried out his assignments very well. He is a member of the Math and Photo Clubs and of the Rifle Team. Outside of school Don goes in for fish — both large and small. He likes to angle for trout, and raising tropical peculiarities is his hobby. This past year he dropped out of the rapidly dis' integrating bachelors club in our class and now has become quite the man' about'town. Before specializing in electrical en' gineering at M. I. T., Don is planning to take a Post'Graduate course at Kings' wood and spend some time at Trinity College. 21
