We, the K-Lite Staff, dedicate our 14th and final Annual to our alma mater in which we, and numerous others before us, have spent many happy years. Our school system had its beginning in 1811; at which time, the trustees of Kingsville enacted an ordinance to erect a log school house. Later the need for a high school arose, and in 1835 the Kingsville Academy was erected on the lot beside the present library building. When this building was destroyed by fire on December 20, 1847, classes continued in other available areas within the township until the new building was ready for occupancy the following year. In 1872, the academy was presented to the Kingsville trustees because it could no longer be operated on a private basis. Our alma mater has the distinction of being the first consolidated school west of the Allegheny Mountains. This became effective April 17, 1892. In 1927, the school building was again destroyed by fire. Once more classes were held in various othei buildings until the completion of the new school on the present site in 1929. Since that time two wings have been added--the north one in 1953 and the south one in 1958. Another major decision became effective May 5, 1960 when Pierpont and Kingsville schools were con- solidated with Edgewood to form the present Buckeye System. Kingsville Schools have been noted for their thoroughness and excellence and ever since Academy days have been on the recognized list at Ohio State University. 4

Alma Mater Now a tribute we would pay thee, Our Alma mater dear. With loyal hearts we hail thee, Thy children gathered near. Our fondest hopes are with thee. We pledge thee love untold. We give again a three times three For the crimson and the gold. Old times often take us, Far from our high school home. False fortune oft forsake us, As thru this world we roam. Yet ever fresh we'll greet thee, Our love shall ne'er grow old; Our Alma mater Kingsville Hi, And the crimson and the gold. Then Kingsville Hi forever, Friend of our high school days. Naught from thee our hearts can sever, We'll ever sing thy praise. In after years we'll sing thee, As in the days of old, All hail to dear old Kingsville Hi, And the crimson and the gold. 5
