Page 51 3 We, the K-Lite Staff, dedicate our 14th and final Annual to our alma mater in which we, and numerous others before us, have spent many happy years. Our school system had its beginning in 1811; at which time, the trustees of Kingsville enacted an ordinance to erect a log school house. Later the need for a high school arose, and in 1835 the Kingsville Academy was erected on the lot beside the present library building. When this building was destroyed by fire on December 20, 1847, classes continued in other available areas within the township until the new building was ready for occupancy the following year. In 1872, the academy was presented to the Kingsville trustees because it could no longer be operated on a private basis. Our alma mater has the distinction of being the first consolidated school west of the Allegheny Mountains. This became effective April 17, 1892. In 1927, the school building was again destroyed by fire. Once more classes were held in various othei buildings until the completion of the new school on the present site in 1929. Since that time two wings have been added--the north one in 1953 and the south one in 1958. Another major decision became effective May 5, 1960 when Pierpont and Kingsville schools were con- solidated with Edgewood to form the present Buckeye System. Kingsville Schools have been noted for their thoroughness and excellence and ever since Academy days have been on the recognized list at Ohio State University. 4 Alma Mater Now a tribute we would pay thee, Our Alma mater dear. With loyal hearts we hail thee, Thy children gathered near. Our fondest hopes are with thee. We pledge thee love untold. We give again a three times three For the crimson and the gold. Old times often take us, Far from our high school home. False fortune oft forsake us, As thru this world we roam. Yet ever fresh we'll greet thee, Our love shall ne'er grow old; Our Alma mater Kingsville Hi, And the crimson and the gold. Then Kingsville Hi forever, Friend of our high school days. Naught from thee our hearts can sever, We'll ever sing thy praise. In after years we'll sing thee, As in the days of old, All hail to dear old Kingsville Hi, And the crimson and the gold. 5 1885-1927 6 'V o. o Z luooujJOOci ■u cu ■U GJ «U QJ Patsy Chapin—Editor Judy Speer--Assistant Editor Jack Ogren- -Business Manager Administration • Faculty Buckeye School Board Left to right. Family-size rockets have replaced family cars and super rockets are available for the teen-age crowd. One of our classmates. Bill Mitrovich, who always wanted to follow in John Glenn’s footsteps, has a rocket which he calls SUPER SANDY. He always enjoyed taking space trips in SUPER SANDY'; but one day his rocket got out of control, and he landed on the plantet Mars. He was immediately greeted by Tom Hinkle, who is the Public Relations Director there. Since the impact of the landing had caused a lump on the side of Bill’s head, a trip to the hospital was inevitable in Tom's opinion. In a short time an ambulance driven by Jack Luce arrived on the scene, and Marilyn Baldwin hopped out to examine Bill's head. Penny Sherwood jumped out at the same time and screamed. She had seen a body lying near the plane. She went over to look and discovered that it was Ron Platt. She began crying hysterically because he was once one of her very dearest classmates. He re- gained consciousness while Penny was crying and told her he was okay. While they were traveling to the hospital via ambulance, they saw Kathleen Kister and Georgia Hays painting a poster which announced the opening of Bob Marshall's drug store. Marshall's Drug Store had a familiar sound to the ambulance crew, but it must have sounded strange to the- Martians. When they finally arrived at the hospital, Judy Speer led them to the laboratory where she took a sample of Tom's and Ron's blood for the doctor in charge, who was none' other than Dr. W. Walbridge. After a careful examination, the doctor announced to everyone that Bill was suffering from shock; Ron, from over-exertion. They were allowed to leave the hospital provided they would go home, eat lightly, and not get excited. Leaving hurriedly, they immediately set out for Kay Wing's Flying School to learn what drey had done' wrong on this flight that had landed them on Mars. Kay called in her assistant, Russ Risley. He told them that he didn't know, but the same thing had happened to Kay and him. That was why they were on the planet. Somewhat mystified by it all, Bill and Ron bade Kay and Russ adieu and ambled up the avenue looking for a place to eat. They noticed a sign, Mary's Place, and entered to find diat the owner, server, dish washer, and boss was Mary Green. After the- dinner had been served, the' lights dimmed and the soft moan of a saxophone was heard. Linda Brunei! sang softly to the sweet tunes played by Roger Brock- et. After the: third encore there was a big boom. It seems that June Matulis and Barb Collister were trying to- Invent silent gun- powder, but something- must have gone wrong. Meanwhile, the boys discovered that Joan Dawson, Linda Hoover, Audrey Bissett, and Sharon Miller had married earth men and had ewe to Mars: for their honeymoon. They liked; the new Planet so well that they had settled on productive farms and had a combined 32 total of seventy-two offsprings. They are very busy but each week they visit the beauty salon where Brenda Means, Barbara Kobernik, and Nancy McConnell work. Here they hear the latest gossip. The last time they went, they heard that Bill dayman had just been married for the seventh time to a rich millionairess and had settled down in the foothills of Kingsville, Ohio. Paul Dain and Charles Jack are planning to have the biggest sheep ranch in Pierpont in the near future. At the present time they have fourteen sheep. Roger Osburn is now retired in Tanganyika. He has achieved his life time ambition--a harem consisting of thirteen girls. His harem queen is Sandy Masick. She was always a good queen in high school! Marianne Daywalt has been taking lessons and is now the fastest woman track star in Carlson Corners, a little town named for Nancy Carlson because of her great patience. Bill and Ron continued to wander around the planet. They asked Walter Cave, who is the chief of police, for information about the planet. He pointed out several landmarks to them. Among these were the Strock Cathedral, built in honor of Wallace Strock; Bar- tram's Bath house, owned and operated by Dave Bartram; Louden’s Laundermat, which Roger Louden and Dave Flack pretended to run; and O'Bell’s Treehouse Observatory. The Mars Embassy was located not far from where they were, so Bill and Ron decided to visit it and change their money into Martian dollars. The first person they met was Jack Qgren, who was sweeping the floor in preparation for open house the embassy was holding for the local colleges. The man in charge of changing the money turned out to be Gary Mallory. Recognizing Gary, Bill asked him how he had come to live on Mars. Gary explained that he and Ted Rose had been a part of an experiment to find out if life existed on other planets. Gary invited Bill and Ron to attend the open house to meet their former classmates, Rose Kubichek and Pat Hass, who now w'ere professors of psychology at die college. They attended the open- house but left in a short time to visit the Dewey Dance Hall. Here they discovered a bit of excitement, for Archie and Kathy were attempting to teach Carl Artman, Dick Carle, Jack Randolph, and Allyn Thiel to do the twist. There was added excitement when the juke box caught fire. The fire department was called and Jean Blank, Janice Herl, Maralyn Dain, and Ginger Ingramm answered the call. Jean got her foot caught in one of the boots; Janice tripped and fell over the firehose; and Ginger picked up the wrong end of the hose and became quite wet. The fire was still raging, so new recruits were sent from the firehouse. They were Bob Bliss, Patsy Chapin, Sandy Pickens, Mary Oren, Bill Philips, and Gloria McCroskey. Even they could not help, for suddenly the water stopped coming through the hose. The noise and confusion were terrific! What a way to end a space trip! 33 Cuckoos on the Hearth Don Carleton........Dave Flack Cuckoos on the Hearth presented Zadoc Grimes . . . .Ronnie Platt some strange characters: an unknown Lulu Pung...........June Matulis mystery writer, an eccentric female Sheriff Luellan cousin, several foreign agents, a Preble............Jack Luce sheriff (actually an escaped strangler), Professor...........Ted Rose and a state trooper.
