Snapped at the retirement party for Lynn A. Sprague were his sister, Mrs. Arthur Schellenberger; his son, Dr. David Sprague; and his two daughters, Lila, Mrs. Richard McGinnis; and Ethel, Mrs. J. L. Jensen. Kingsville School will be the loser when veteran educator, Lynn Sprague, gives up his role as superintendent, principal, teacher, and advisor to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and his flower garden. On October 12, 1893, Mr. Lynn A. Sprague was born on a farm in Middleburg Town- ship, Cuyahoga County. He spent eight years attending country school, then went to Berea to high school. There were sixty-five students in his class in the freshman year but only eighteen were in his graduating class. Mr. Sprague attended Baldwin Wallace College. He went there for one year, leaving to teach for three years at North Royalton. He first taught in a one-room country school; then in the high school where he was one half the faculty! After teaching at North Royalton, Mr. Sprague went back to college for another year. During these years, he attended college four summers and took courses for three years on Saturdays. In 1917, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Mr. Sprague had been teaching at Independence Village for two years when he thought he wanted to quit to get some other kind of work. At this time, he was living in Cleveland. However, when fall came, he began a four-month period of substituting in the Cleveland Schools. For the next six and one-half years, he taught science, physics, and biology at Ashtabula Harbor. The following twenty-four years Mr. Sprague spent at Hubbard. He was principal at the high school for eighteen years and superin- tendent for four years. In 1950, Mr. Sprague came to Kingsville as executive head of the Kingsville Schools. Mr. Sprague has one son, Dr. David Sprague of Lakewood, O., and two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Jensen of Dayton and Mrs. Lila McGinnis of Elyria, Ohio. His wife, Mrs. Florence Sprague, passed away in April, 1957. At the close of this school year, Mr. Sprague will retire after a life of service--45 years. It is an honor to know Mr. Sprague and to have worked with him. I am sure we, of the student body, will remember him as a great teacher and a wonderful friend. 6
