History Ulf The Class Ulf 1941 Now as the class of '41 draws so near to graduation it seems a long way back to those days in 1930 when we were timid little first graders in Miss Erickmann's room. Remember those demerits she used to give? As we passed from grade to grade there were Miss Brown and her circus, Miss Speigner and her spelling, Mrs. Aarrowsmith and her notebooks, and Miss Edwards and her geography. In the sixth grade we had our first ex- perience in departmental work. Miss McDaniel taught us drawing, Miss Reynlplds, Math, Miss Edwards and Mr. Godbold held numerous spelling matc es. In 1936 we came up to high school to enter the seventh grade. That year Miss Louise, Miss Susie and Miss Harley were our teachers. With the use of cold cream and cocoa we became make-believe Indians in Hiawatha, an operetta presented by Miss Louise. The next year we were real high school students. VVe continued to climb from class to class. There was science from Miss Swails, math from Mr. Pierce, Mr. Rampey and Miss Crook, history from Miss Crockett, Latin and English from Miss Forrest, French from Miss Roberts, home economics from Miss Oosterbann, physical education from Mr. Welch, commerce and choir from Mr. Sherfey, shop and diversied occupations from Mr. Darby, music from Miss Daugherty, Miss Drumwright and Mr. Middleton, agricul- ture from Dr. Doar and Mr. Creel, and English from Mr. Montgomery. Miss Patterson was our librarian and advisor for the annual. This class has had stars on our football, baseball and basketball teams so ably coached by Mr. Pierce, Mr. Welch, Mr. Coker and Miss McClure. VVe've had a band to be proud of. Through our high school years Mr. White, our highly esteemed super- intendent, who succeeded Mr. Swittenberg in 1935, and Mr. Montgomery, our beloved principal, have always seemed so willing to help us. And so may this entire class remember these happy days which are so valuable to us. May we use our abilities as we should and may we bring honor to our school. Standings of former choir members in college musical organizations is a source of much satis- faction to the director and to the school officials. Each year choir members wonder if the loss of seniors will retard the choir's progress of the com- ing year but the group has reached new heights of accomplishment each each. This year, however, the boys section is without any experienced voices and the choir has not been able to give any concerts. The Girls' Glee Club The Girls' Glee Club-the girls of the choir-distinguished themselves this year by returning from the Coker Contest with a beautiful silver loving cup. Laast ye-ar was their first year to enter and they tied Georgetown for the cup. After much difficulty in determining the winners, their opponents were awared the cup. Our girls saay they are going to keep the cup by winning it next year and the year after. Page Thirty-hvo we ,fi , 1. M M, as 1 in tg, . They were winners of eleven straight games without a defeat: champions of the state. They were the idols of the town and their school. We could name several stars among the squad but we would rather think of them all as stars. Because they were one unit, indivisible, working together for one another, with but one thought-to win. Look at the smashing results they left in every town and along with that score they left a feeling of good sportsmanship, clean playing and admiration from the spectators.
