Above: Jill Benedict and Brenda Burgess exchanging thoughts concerning the paper. KHS Happening was the title of this year’s newspaper. It was the best school newspaper put out in many years. Although there were only six staff members, with the aid of Mrs. Denhoff and the new xerox machine—a well- written. well put together paper was pub- lished on a monthly basis. Many different items and columns were well-appreciated. The art work done by Julie Moshier was outstanding. The monthly horoscope, Poet's Corner, and article on current events gave much en- joyment. We hope that next year's paper will just be as interesting and informative despite the loss of the senior staff. Good job, Mrs. DenhoffI Left: Denise James and Belinda Eldridge discussing matters about the school newspaper. HOMECOMING 1983 ABOVE LEFT: Mr. Megge pulls the Sophomore float dur- ing the Homecoming parade with a truck full of stu- dents. ABOVE RIGHT: The Kingston High School Marching Band is always a favorite to watch at the Homecoming Parade. LEFT: Sixth place was given to the Juniors with their float entitled. Beat It . RIGHT: The clowns were a sight to see at the parade. Here. Joey Welch demonstrates his ability to clown around . Homecoming represents not only a time of the year for fun and rowdi- ness. but also a time for showing our unity. This Homecoming that unity was put to the test. Due to unresolved problems in the agree- ment of a contract, teachers an- nounced their decision to have a work stoppage midway into spirit week. This decision took everyone by surprise, caused a lot of havoc, and raised many questions. With all of our problems would K.H.S. be able to make Homecoming a success? Well, we went ahead with the original plans. Before the parade Fri- day afternoon, the spirit assembly was held in the high school gym. Many students participated and the spirit award was won by the Senior Class. The halftime show went well. The crowds, the floats, the Homecoming court, every element of a Homecom- ing parade was present. In the float competition, the Freshmen broke tradition by taking 1st place. Seventh grade placed 2nd, Seniors took 3rd, Eighth grade claimed 4th, Sopho- mores 5th, and the Juniors took 6th. During crowning ceremonies, Dave Skinner and Tammy Steele were crowned Homecoming King and Queen—Gary Jaster and Pam Steele, the Prince and Princess. Although the game was lost 0-3, this Homecoming can be thought a success as K.H.S. proved a point. Despite all of the problems and controversies within our school system, we pulled together into a strong force. We can stand up and be proud of that ability to work through problems and survive the storms. 10
