Kindergarten, when everyone is excited and wants to come to school. The girls played with dolls and the boys played with the big wooden blocks. Soon we're in first grade, bringing rugs to lay on, while we listen to a story, after the noon recess. 1 Second grade goes by with our harder reading books and spelling books. j It's third grade now, and some of us are in Mrs. Greenleaf's room across the hall from I Mrs. Hackett's room. Those of us that were in Mrs. Hackett's room remember our class- mate, Mike Diegel always beating everyone else to the hopscotch mat at noon. The next year comes and finds us still in the same hall, but some of us are across from the big high school kids, the rest are down the hall in Mrs. Wallace's room. It's 1965, and we find ourselves way up in the fifth grade. Mrs. Denhoff has a big share of us and Mrs. Cooper has the rest. This is a pretty big year, because we get to start band. Mr. Smith decided to start us out on fluta-phones first and then we can choose , which instrument we want. Oh Another thing, we're going to the Shrine Circus in Saginaw. What's this? We're sixth graders and we're watching Leann Bierd fight Alfred Laga- vitz. Who's winning? Well, bystander Jackie Galubenski just got hit by a flying punch. ! But we all agree that the fight is a draw. It's a beautiful day, and we're outside for noon 1 recess. All that we're doing is having chicken fights, and here comes Mrs. Harneck down the hill, blowing the whistle. She tells us not to do that anymore, for our own good, because we could get hurt. O.K. we won't do it anymore, but as soon as she left, ! guess what we did. That's right, had chicken fights. Oh, what's Jr. High like? We're growing up now, we're almost like the big high school kids. Well it was a big change, but it wasn't so bad. It was kind of fun having our : own locker and running around between classes feeling important. It was a new experi- ence having a different teacher for each class. We'll always remember Mr. Heimermann, who took us on nature walks, and A.O.K. Herman, our substitute science teacher who : taught us the Russian alphabet. ; Eighth grade finds us more excited, because we have a new school to move into after coming back from Christmas vacation. At first it was hectic with everyone getting lost ; and either getting to class late, or not even getting there at all. But the worst was walking into class, sitting down and then realizing you were in the wrong room. Being a freshman meant getting initiated by the sophomores. We didn't think it fair . that we couldn't dress up like the other years did, so after arriving at school that day, some of us decided to decorate our faces with some lipstick, only to be sent to the wash- rooms by the principal who advised we un-decorate our faces. , In the tenth grade our Biology class took a field trip to the Dow Chemical Company. This year brought us more privileges, we were able to choose more of our classes, and of course we took the easiest courses. The highlights of our Junior year, were the Junior-Senior Prom, Saturday in the Park, ' which took a lot of planning and hard work; and the Junior play, Dirty Work at the Cross- roads, which was fun and very time consuming. Our director. Miss Bartkowski kept us going, and it was well worth the effort put into it, because we feel that it was a great 1 success. ! This year we are looking forward to our senior trip, and hoping that our class grows closer as the year comes to an end. We will always look back on our school days with pleasant memories. 3
