MEMORIES N V -n M ' o • Kindergarten, when everyone is excited and wants to come to school. The girls played with dolls and the boys played with the big wooden blocks. Soon we're in first grade, bringing rugs to lay on, while we listen to a story, after the noon recess. 1 Second grade goes by with our harder reading books and spelling books. j It's third grade now, and some of us are in Mrs. Greenleaf's room across the hall from I Mrs. Hackett's room. Those of us that were in Mrs. Hackett's room remember our class- mate, Mike Diegel always beating everyone else to the hopscotch mat at noon. The next year comes and finds us still in the same hall, but some of us are across from the big high school kids, the rest are down the hall in Mrs. Wallace's room. It's 1965, and we find ourselves way up in the fifth grade. Mrs. Denhoff has a big share of us and Mrs. Cooper has the rest. This is a pretty big year, because we get to start band. Mr. Smith decided to start us out on fluta-phones first and then we can choose , which instrument we want. Oh Another thing, we're going to the Shrine Circus in Saginaw. What's this? We're sixth graders and we're watching Leann Bierd fight Alfred Laga- vitz. Who's winning? Well, bystander Jackie Galubenski just got hit by a flying punch. ! But we all agree that the fight is a draw. It's a beautiful day, and we're outside for noon 1 recess. All that we're doing is having chicken fights, and here comes Mrs. Harneck down the hill, blowing the whistle. She tells us not to do that anymore, for our own good, because we could get hurt. O.K. we won't do it anymore, but as soon as she left, ! guess what we did. That's right, had chicken fights. Oh, what's Jr. High like? We're growing up now, we're almost like the big high school kids. Well it was a big change, but it wasn't so bad. It was kind of fun having our : own locker and running around between classes feeling important. It was a new experi- ence having a different teacher for each class. We'll always remember Mr. Heimermann, who took us on nature walks, and A.O.K. Herman, our substitute science teacher who : taught us the Russian alphabet. ; Eighth grade finds us more excited, because we have a new school to move into after coming back from Christmas vacation. At first it was hectic with everyone getting lost ; and either getting to class late, or not even getting there at all. But the worst was walking into class, sitting down and then realizing you were in the wrong room. Being a freshman meant getting initiated by the sophomores. We didn't think it fair . that we couldn't dress up like the other years did, so after arriving at school that day, some of us decided to decorate our faces with some lipstick, only to be sent to the wash- rooms by the principal who advised we un-decorate our faces. , In the tenth grade our Biology class took a field trip to the Dow Chemical Company. This year brought us more privileges, we were able to choose more of our classes, and of course we took the easiest courses. The highlights of our Junior year, were the Junior-Senior Prom, Saturday in the Park, ' which took a lot of planning and hard work; and the Junior play, Dirty Work at the Cross- roads, which was fun and very time consuming. Our director. Miss Bartkowski kept us going, and it was well worth the effort put into it, because we feel that it was a great 1 success. ! This year we are looking forward to our senior trip, and hoping that our class grows closer as the year comes to an end. We will always look back on our school days with pleasant memories. 3 TABLE OF CONTENTS Activities P. 5 Sports P. 19 Elementary P. 35 Underclassmen P. 48 Seniors P. 59 Administration P. 71 Advertisements P. 81 ABOVE; Denise Lockeyer and Curt Copeland, her escort, representing the freshmen. Here we were, the Senior class, back for our last year. On the first day between all the excite- ment of seeing our class- mates that we missed over the summer, comparing tans, changing class sched- ules, and meeting new class- mates and friends, many of us still managed to get to class, at least part of the time. PATRICIA CHRISTIE NEWELL CONFER 60 MIKE DIEGEL JIM GLASSFORD LEHN KING BARBARA ELDRIDGE We began to settle down and get to work after Labor Day weekend, and before we knew it, it was Oct. 12, the last day of the first marking period, and Homecoming night. After receiving our report cards on Friday afternoon, many of us couldn't go to the game, and the few that were able to attend were surprized to find our float didn't place as well as we hope it would, but still in all, it was a lot of fun building it. ROXANNE KOEHLER JACKIE GALUBENSKI CHRIS HOUGHTON LINDA KOLACZ irv 61 RON NICHOL PAT LIS We've participated in magazine sales, and the concession stand. And we are planning more activities for the Spring. We're anticipating our Senior class play and hope that it will be a success. And we're all looking for- ward to our Senior Trip and Graduation. Our class has enjoyed the fun we've had in our past years, and hope to have in years to come. And we wish each and every Senior The best of luck and success in whatever they do. Faith in your fellow man will give you a reason to improve society. Faith in yourself will give you the courage to be successful in your endeavors. Faith in God will make your life worth while. As students of Kingston High School my hope is that, not only will your educa- tion include Book Learning, but that you will grow into VALU- ABLE members and leaders of our Ameri- can Society. As Seniors gradua- ting from Kingston my sincere hope is that we have been a help to you. May you walk worthy, remember us. MR. LARRY DETMERS - Principal 73 MR. DOUG KRAMER: Elementary Principal This year there are several new faces at the elementary school along with the addition of a principal in the building. More concern has been placed upon the physical development of students along with a continuous evaluation process going on with general class- room instruction. Out elementary school is constantly at work striv- ing to prepare students better for our high school programs. The concern of the staff for our ele- mentary students shows throughout the building and helps greatly in de- veloping good students. MRS. NEMETH High School Secretary MRS. BRANDIBUR Superintendent's Secretary MRS. SPEAR Elementary Secretary 74 MR. THOMAS BRADLEY: Answer: Kingston High School should not adopt a pass- fail system. This does not provide for an incentive for students who wish to achieve more than is required. SOCIAL STUDIES MRS. DIANNE GORSUCH: Question: What do you think of the students conduct during school? Answer: The majority of stu- dents know how to act at school or anywhere. They respect the rights of others, thus expect the same treatment in return. MR. DAVID ZYBALA: Question: What do you think of the students conduct during school? Answer: Student conduct in this particular system is in my opinion average. I feel our students do not act sufficiently better or worse than other school systems. MRS. EVELYN MILLER: Question: What do you think of the way the student body dresses? Answer: Fair-few show disre- spect for other's by com- ing half dressed. MR. LEWIS HARPER: Question: Are you in favor of school being 12 months instead of 9 months? Answer: Yes I feel that it could work out if all buildings were air conditioned. ENGLISH MR. MARTIN VOHSEN: Answer: The waste of talent and intelligence of many, many students in this school is due simply to apathy. Their potential is being destroyed by their own Energy Waste. 75 MR. WAYNE NESBIT: Question: Do you think Kingston's educationcal system pre- pares a student sufficiently for college or a job? Answer: I feel that they need more college-prep courses as well as more vocational classes. MISS PATRICIE KASUBA: Special Education Question: Do you think Kingston's education system prepares a student sufficiently for college or a job? Answer: If they are taking Al- gebra-science classes, they'll do fine at a major university. MR. JAMES RUTLEDGE: 1. Drafting 2. Gen. Shop 3. Machine INDUSTRIAL ARTS MATH COUNSELOR MR. WILLIAM MILLER: Question: What do you think Phy- sical Ed. (gym) does for a student? Do you think it prepares him or her for a job? Answer: Keeps student in condi- tion if taught correctly. Yes. MISS DONNA MORSE: Question: What do you think of the students conduct during school? Answer: That depends on the individual, can't base on whole student body. MR. JAMES PRIESTAP: Question: Do you think it prepares him or her for a job? Answer: Very much so. Any kind of physical exercise or athletic competition helps you with selfconfi- dence, pride, vigor and drive to achieve. MISS ELLEN MILLER: Question: Do you think Kingston School should adopt the Pass or Fail system? Answer: Yes, some students are only concerned with the grade they will re- ceive. They really don't care about the subject matter enough. SCIENCE MR. DANIEL SKATZKA: Question: Do you think Physical Ed prepare a student for a job? Answer: It does not necessarily prepare a student for a job. The purpose is to prepare a student with skills for leisure time activity and relaxation which is a big part of the American life style. MR. GUY WHITTAKER: Question: Why do you think stu- dents skip classes? Answer: Lacks enough stimula- tion in class. Class usual- ly boring. Not enough dis- cipline in class. P.E. MISS LINDA STEVEN- SON: Question: Do you think Kingston's Educational system pre- pares a student sufficiently for college or a job? Answer: In order to prepare students to enter this society successfully the system has to become more demanding itself. MISS RAINA SMITH: Question: What do you think Phy- sical Ed. (gym) does for a student? Do you think it prepares him or her for a job? Answer: It helps develop coor- dination and enables him or her to release energy he can't in a classroom. MUSIC MR. WAYNE SMITH: Question: Are you in favor of school being 12 months instead of 9 months? Answer: Yes, if the system would be able to include a greater variety of classes. 77 MR. PAUL GORSUCH: Answer: Physical Education is a benefit to every student. Not only does it allow a student to release stored energy; but it also gives many students a chance to excell that would not realize this success in any other class. MRS.
