Seventh 37 38 JOHN FOX MARVIN KRAMER President Vice President GARY KOEHLER Secretary Board Of Education A school board consists of seven elected members, President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer and three Trustees. The primary responsibility of the Board is to make policy for the school district and to set millage to provide monies to operate the school. The board is also responsible for staffing the school and authorizing the payment of school bills. LOUIS WENZLAFF Treasurer ROBERT WILMONT Trustee JOHN BOREK Trustee LOUIS GYOMORY T rustee 40 MR. LARRY DETMERS Principal The student body at Kingston has improved alot in the past year, however, there is always room for more improve- ment. Care of the building and Care for the other person should be the aim of each student. MR. ROBERT CAMERON Superintendent 41 Biology, 7th and 8th grade Science The students need a better K.H.S. self-concept. Far too many students feel that our student body is inferior to that of larger schools in surrounding Areas. The students should realize their capabilities. MISS ELLEN MILLER French I, French II, Journalism, 7th grade English I feel that K.H.S. students compare favorably with any school in Michigan. The majority of our students are well behaved and respect each other and their teachers. Naturally there are a few clowns whose performance will soon become boring to their fellow students and for lack of an audience the im- mature clowns might just grow up. At least it is something that we can hope will happen in the near future. MR. MARTIN VOHSEN MR. GUY WHITTAKER MRS. CATHERINE BRZENZINSKI Chemistry, Physical Science, Physics Kingston High is a school in the process of changing. The students and the teachers both work- ing for something better. I hope that the results will prove fruitful. Office Practice, Typing I, Typing II, Orientation, 7th grade Math Taking all things into consideration, Kingston High School is doing quite well. However, I would like to see the Junior High separated from the Sen- ior High. 4 2 Jr. Band Sr. Band Music Theory Senior Choir MR. WAYNE SMITH MR. DEAN WEBSTER Counselor As a counselor, I have really enjoyed my rela- tionship with the students at K.H.S. Although many are confused about what they want to do when they graduate, the majority of students are interested and concerned about the present. English 8, Speech, World Literature Creative Writing, Drama When the students of KHS all learn to work to- gether for a better school, then KHS will be the greatest! Too many students complain that there's nothing to do and yet, these people never partici- pate in the activities which are planned for their enjoyment. I would like to see more new faces out for all the activities, (including the plays, of course! MISS KATHERINE BARTKOWSKI MR. J. D. KING Special Education The students need to be given direction as well as to initiate it in a constructive manner towards improvement of the school community. 43 Applied Mathematics, 7th and 8th grade Mathematics, General Mathematics MR. WILLIAM MILLER MR. WAYNE NESBITT General Shop, 7th and 8th grade Shop, Building Construction, Electronics 9th grade English, and 10th grade English, MRS. EVELYN MILLER MISS DONNA MORSE Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry STUDENT BODY IMPROVEMENT- -More pep at assemblies -More class participation instrad of just a few students -Feeling of unity 44 Librarian A small school like Kingston has a great deal to offer. But how much you get out of it depends on how much you put into it. It requires interest and enthusiasm and a willingness to meet teachers and other students halfway. You can't just vegetate and slide along and expect to gain much from your edu- cation. Each new day should be a challenge, not a drag, and your attitude can mean the difference MRS. JACQUELIN OPPERMAN Boys Physical Education, Boys Orientation, Athletic Director Everyone has something that he or she can do better than anyone else. I am happy to see more and more people finding this something in the Cardinal Athletic Program. MR. DANIEL SKATZKA MR. JAMES RUTLEDGE MISS RAINA SMITH General Shop Drafting Machine and Hot Metals Home Economics, Physical Education I would like to see the support of the entire student body for all the athletic teams. The school spirit has improved greatly from the beginning of the year, but still it is only a select few that show the spirit. Hopefully, people will continue to get involved and even support the girls sports. 45 Reading Improvement I feel that the students at K. H. S. , as a whole are a good group of kids. However there are a few who ruin it for the rest. The responsibility is every- ones. Our reputations are at stake. EVERYONE should work to remedy this problem. MR. ROBERT CURIE Wd. Geography, Conservation, Am. History In the years that I have worked in this school district there have been many changes for the bet- ter, may we continue to make the most of those changes. MR. LENIS HARPER MRS. DIANE GORSUCH MR. PAUL GORSUCH Am. History, World History, Economy Sociology, Girls Orientation, Girls Physical Education There are many ways that Kingston has and could improve; but if everything was perfect there would be no challenge. It is that challenge that makes us question and mature through the exper- ience of finding better ways. General Business, Bookkeeping Accounting, Business Math, Orientation The enjoyment of working with young adults is a rewarding experience in coaching athletics. We both learn valuable lessons from winning and losing and this helps us prepare for future competition. Secretary for the Superintendent MRS. SHARON BRANDIBUR World History, Government, Michigan History Most of the student body this year is a definite asset to the community. However, a few of the stu- dents do give the school a bad name on occasion and this makes it bad for the whole school. MR. THOMAS BRADLEY MRS. WILDA NEMETH Secretary for the Principal MRS. HAZEL SPEAR Secretary for the Superintendent Elementary School 47 Teacher’s Aids TOP (L TO R): E. Glassfoid, B. Parker. BOTTOM (L TO R): P. Allen, V. Wolak, M. Hameck. Cooks Mrs. Leona Henderson In addition to the many other changes which our school has un- dergone this year, we also have a split lunch hour. At first it was very confusing for both students and teachers, but now that every- one is used to it, the majority feels that it is much better, since there is less noise and the cafe- teria isn't nearly as crowded. The following students help Mrs. Barrons in the kitchen. They do many jobs which help make her work somewhat easier, such as helping serve lunches, cleaning up between and after lunch periods, and selling side dishes. My thanks go to Kevin Barrens for his outstanding photo- graphy, to all the faculty and administration for their understanding and putting up with our interruptions during class, to Mr. Gary Benson and to the American Yearbook Co., whose help and advice greatly improved our book. I also appreciate all the help and work I received from the other members of the yearbook staff. Speaking for the entire yearbook staff, I want to express our appreciation for the patience and efforts put forth by our yearbook adivsor, Mrs. Opperman, without whose guidance we would not have this 1973 yearbook. So as another year passes and fond memories lin- ger, we hope as you look through the book you will remember those wonderful days and those who made them that way. --Kathy Van Horn Editor • • Faces On Faces On Faces.
