PRESENTING Cardinal 69 Kingston High School Kingston, Michigan CARDINAL '69 is probably the last yearbook to be put together within the halls of good ol' Kingston High School. Already in proc- ess, the new high school will be taking over soon. With this thought in mind, CARDINAL '69 is dedicated to the memories and graduates of the past and the success of the future. School started with the 1968- 1969 Homecoming. Out of the court the High School picked Pam Lyons as their queen. Miss Lyons was crowned by last year's queen Jane Peter. A dozen red roses were presented to the queen by the co- captains Dale Allen and Grant Gettel. Following the game a dance was held in the gym and the UNITED SOUND furnished the music. Journalism 7 Musical 8 Program The choir is one of our more important organizations in the Music Department. The students in choir have given much devotion in the quest of bringing enjoyment and musical understanding to themselves and their audiences. The majority of people have been in choir for the past three years. With two exceptions all of the tenors and basses have two more years in choir and with the rapid improvement they have made, and will continue to make, the choir will be a more dominating force in the music department. 9 PEP BAND The purpose of this organization is three fold. 1). To help promote school spirit. 2). To stimulate and provide band students more opportunity to per- form. 3). To give the twillers an op- portunity to perform other than foot- ball season. We sincerely hope that the student body will continue to support the pep band. 10 Future Homemakers of America F.H.A. We are the Future Homemakers of America. We face the future with courage and high hopes. This year started out with a bang. First we had initiation, which was great fun for the new members. Our major project was our Thanksgiving dinner, which we gave in honor of last years members. We plan on having many more projects and just having a great time. F.F.A. The FFA is one of the two youth organizations which is registered trademark by act of Congress. The 1963 Co-Ed Bill allowed the local and state to admit girls. John Borek, Jim Harper; Jim Langmaid, Tim Cherniawski and Ulrich Scheuermann were among the 45 FFA boys of Region 7 who rode the Chartered Indian Trail bus that went on the FFA National con- vention trip. The boys were among the 13,025 people that attended the 40th Annual FFA convention at Kansas City, Mo. Future Farmers of America 11 In the past years at K.H.S. the stu- dent council has tried to do several things. Not only what was expected of them such as the Homecoming, but also helped to support several new things, such as payer's for part of our new foreign exchange students costs while he is in school here. Above all the student council is for the students and the students should tell the student council what they want. Student Council Varsitv Club • The varsity club is real proud this year to have as our sponsors Mr. Morgon and Mr. Bebow. This year the varsity club has bought blazers to match and are receiving red emblems for the jackets. The basketball team is doing well and look nice in their jackets. The varsity club would like to thank the people of K.H.S. for supporting the athletic teams of Kingston, and making it a joy to play sports for our wonderful school. Office Assistants ABOVE. We have also taken pride in the cheery moods that are created from the very in- teresting bulletin boards that Mrs. Opperman helps us produce. I think we have enjoyed ourselves being librarians this year, as work in our library is mostly on the bright side. 13 Editor-in-Chief........................Brenda Lalko Assistant Editor.......................Nancy Chappel Administration Editor..................Carol Walkiewicz Barb Woods and Loretta Spear Senior Editor..........................Evelyn Schmuhl Cathy Parker and Janet Harneck Underclassmen Editor...................Barb Kolacz Shelly Schwarderer and Michelle Brandibur Elementary Editor......................Marjorie Spear Linda Warner Activities Editor......................Ellen Moore Carol Rayl, Bob Die gel and Mary Houghton Sports Editor..........................Sandy Silvernail Dan Packey and Fred Peter Advertising Editor.....................Nancy Chappel Shelly Snover, Shelly Schwarderer, and JoAnn Hergenreder Photographer...........................Carol Walkiewicz ADVISOR................................Mrs. Opperman 14 Cardinal 69 Yearbook BOTTOM ROW: E. There were different events that the sophomores made the fresh- men do for their initiation. Among these were the onion race, in which they had to pass it under their chin and if they dropped it, they had to take a bite. Another event was picking up lifesavers off the ground with a toothpick. The third event was finding a cherry in a bowl of whip cream. Another was putting their hands in a bowl of liver and guess what it was. The last one was a bicycle race on tri- cycles. Following the initiation was a dance in the gym, which was enjoyed by all. 16 Hey Ole This phrase refers to our first exchange student. Ole is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Carlyl Everett.
