W -1 2 J . 1 ' HI' 'fum 4 KINGSLEY PUBLIC SCHOOL The graduating class of 1952 is the sixty third to be graduated from the Kingsley Public School This modern new building differs greatly from the first, which was a one room structure housing the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades and located on the site of the present Congregational Church, another room, dignified by the title, uThe High School,u was over a store building which is now known as McMahon and Son's Drug Store Soon a new school building was begun, and from time to time additions were made until it became the present one which is fast becoming too crowded. I 7 E2 L- We ' h Sherry Garlow, Darlis Roepke, Thelma Nielsen, Janis Haggin, Janice Mathers Sally Van Buskirk Sherry Garlow Beverly Van Buskirk CHEERLEADERS Cheerleaders are essential to the school splrit New ones are chosen each year by the high school students to replace those who have been graduated This year flve cheerleaders instead of four were chosen The new members are Thelma Nielsen, Janis Haggin, and Janice Mathers Those retained from last year were Sherry Garlow and Darlis Roepke, who have been cheerleaders for three years Because of excessive duties Darlis was forced to resign, but her good work is still remembered New actions and yells were inaugerated this year to add more pep to the games and pep meetings At every game the cheerleaders are out front urging our teams to maintain the honor of Kingsley High They deserve much apprec1at1on for their work Show your appreciation by always cheering with them and really backing up our team. Most of the cheerleaders also participate in basketball so two substitutes were chosen to lead the uyellsu at the girls' games. Sally and Beverly Van Busklrk deserve much credit for their work. SOCIAL EVENTS The social events of Kingsley High School for the year 1951 52 included various events such as class plays, music concerts, the Junior-Senior Prom, Homecoming, school parties, and the two great events for the Seniors of 1951, Baccalaureate and Commencement The Seniors of 1951 presented the three act mystery, Hobgoblin House, on April 20, directed by Mr E Lamb The Juniors of 1952 presented The Divine Flora, a three act comedy, on November 9 1951 directed by Mrs Phelps The spring music concert was held on April 6 1951 at Kingsley High School, the solo contest was held at Sioux Center on April 13 and the County Music Festival was held at Remsen on April 27 Dorotha Mich, Margaret Soeldner, Duane Smith, Wayne Pfaffle, and Phebe Wolfson went to Des Moines to participate in the All state Chords and Orchestra We, the Seniors of 1952, were hosts and hostesses to the Sen Orchestra furnished the music for the evening of dancing The theme was Old Mexico, and the gymnasium was gaily decorated with large multi colored sombrero as the center of attraction The day of Homecoming dawned clear, but very cold and rather windy The parade was held in the afternoon as usual with the band, bicycles, and the attractive floats participating The King candidates, Francis Hamman, Arlen Nhite, and Kent Richardson and the Queen candidates, Sally Mathers, Darlis Roepke, and Margaret Soeldner rode on the Senior float At night the nRoya1ty' rode in convertibles and King Francis and Queen Sally were crowned be fore the game The day's festivities were highlighted by the dance after the football game Several high school parties, sponsored by the various classes, were held during the year They were all a big success and enjoyed by everyone The entertainment included square dancing, social dancing, and other games These were the outstanding social events of Kingsley High School during the past year ' J I D iors of 1951 at the Junior-Senior Prom on May 9, 1951.
