In November ot that year the name was changed to Kingsbury, in February ot I876 to Kingsburgh, and in January, I894, to the present spelling, Kingsburg. Our town has changed not only in name, but also in character. From a wheat-shipping center in the '7O's and '8O's', it has developed into a thriving agricultural community. Business and employment opportunities are kept at a high level. Industries include a peach cannery, a cotton oil plant, several cotton gins, plants tor packing truit and manufacturing stockteed and tarm equipment, two large wineries, a raisin house, and a tire-recapping plant. During the peak season, employment reaches well over l,OOO, the cannery alone having a payroll in excess ot a halt-million dollars. Many people ot Swedish descent have settled in Kingsburg, and once a year Kings- burg becomes a bit ot the homeland ot her Scandinavian torebears. The gold and blue ot Sweden bedeck the town, and businessmen, housewives, and children dress in costume tor the annual Midsummer testival day. I-Iere, then, is the I954 Viking, telling the story ot both our school lite, and ot Kings- burg, A real hometown. Editor, Lois Rosander.
