Somewhere off the corridors of memory there will always be a room with special meaning, a place where school days and school ways and dearly-loved friends will be set apart. Ahead lie unknown paths of respon- sibility, branching away into fields of varied circumstances. We do not know what lies ahead, but let us always remember the good which lies behind. Let us hope that the dear names, faces and events which follow in these pages will be a faithful chronicle of some of our happiest days, a record of years well spent, a beautiful and enduring memory of K. H. S. ,lo I l DEDICATION To you-Alice Frenche-in appreciation of your unselfish devo- tion to Kingsburg High School and to us, its studentsg in recog- nition of the interest which you have displayed toward improv- ing our work during the years of your service here, and in sincere gratitude for your tireless efforts in making Fairyland the success that it wasg to you, We, the Senior Class, fondly dedicate this 1947 Viking Annual. - HCI HGH P -. Pierre Colmfelor jo lol-ey Gila, 1 6, cmfpff, ,611 THE FOUNDERS OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY of ours realized that the surest basis for the government of a free and independent people was the education of all people. Strong in this belief, they did much to give this new idea an opportunity to grow and flourish in this new land. Such leaders as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Iefferson were strong supporters of free public education. To assure this freedom and independence, and to guar- antee the support of free public education within our nation, many laws have been enacted by both state and national assemblies. From this humble beginning, America has given to the world the greatest institution for the benefit of mankind that any civilization has produced, Within this heritage, we of today must assume our responsibility in carrying forward this banner of liberty, so that the people of all nations shall know that the true spirit of freedom and independence still exists in the heart of every true American. You, of the Senior Class of 1947, as the heirs and possessors of this truly American ideal- the supporters of free public education for all - must take your place in the ranks of those who will pass this banner on to the future generations. An educated people is a free people. Let us ever be free by dedicating ourselves to the con- tinued advancement of free public education for all. -IOHN F. This new system is concerned specifically with the students' futureftheir educational, voca- tional, recreational and social careers. The department strives earnestly to guide each student toward the life career to which he aspires, and to locate, recognize, and develop what individual abilities he may possess and to help him overcome the problem of connecting himself happily and effectively with an active life in the world of affairs outside of school. Miss Iosey has done Kingsburg High School a great service in coordinating such a guidance system here. She has tried to help each student to be more intelligent in solving problems regarding his educational and vocational situation. Mr. Einar Peterson serves as the vice-principal of KI-IS. He has charge of keeping the attend- ance record, and he is advisor to the Board of managers, Besides all this, Mr. Peterson man- ages to teach four classes a day, ADMINISTRATION lj 1 ,Off A Tas, Mr, Fuzz! THE CLASS Ol: 48' has ample reason to be proud of its many accornplishnients this past year We started out by electing very capable officers who have led us successfully through one of our znost important school years, Our biggest achievement was our lunior Play, T What a Life which went over with a 'bang' For her efforts in making this play a success, we sincerely thank Miss Dasura Many of the successes in football and basketball this year were due to the ability of a number of our class. The HB tearn which won the Fresno County Basketball Championship was inade up mostly of luniors. We really capped the cliniax when we put on the luniorASenior Banquet The gym was transe formed into a marine garden and showed much originality. The lunior Class Wishes to extend its appreciation to its advisors, Miss Arbios, Miss Newf becker, Mr. Frane and Mr. Garrigus. And now with a low sweeping bow, we, seniors of next year, leave the lunior stage to the ll49ers with every hope that they carry on the banner which so nobly held. GRAMMAR SCHQQL DAYS were fading memories when on the 23rd of September, we Freshmen, one hundred strong, entered Kingsburg l-'ligh With many new customs with which to become acquainted, and with many new faces with which to become familiar, it was a day of excitement and bewilderment. Everyone made us feel welcome. We were entertained with a program, games and refrsh- ments at the Senior-Freshman Receptiong and the Girls of Service gave a party for the new girls, Although we lost the Freshman-Sophomore Brawl-fall but the tug ol warwwe had the time of our lives Our own class parties were held in November and May, the first featuring garries and a pro- gram in the high school gym, and the second an outdoor picnic. We also did our share of entertaining ln May the Freshmen and Sophomores gave an assembly in the auditorium, successfully keeping the audience in stitches of laughter. All in all we have enjoyed our first year at Kingsburg I-ligh and are sorry to see it end. We hope to continue through the next three years to maintain the high standards and ideals set up by previous classes. I ' 'IAHIICI7 lcwllfi ll. HLJJIV, lr14gilfI,', K, II.l7l,7f,, 13, lui, ff.
